VP2 USB+NSLU2 and Meteohub 3.3c connection issues

Post by sevenless »

My VantagePro2 with a USB connection once again has poor connection stability since I upgraded to the latest version of Meteohub.

With the previous version of Meteohub, it was able to maintain its connection much better, or when it lost sync it regained it rapidly. Since upgrading, it loses connection daily and I am required to restart the system.

I'm running it on an NSLU2, so whatever change was implemented to improve the dev/usb loading for the x86 systems is detrimental on these systems, it appears.

Can I revert to the previous version of Meteohub by downloading the .upd file, or do I need to reinstall from scratch?

Also I've come across a separate problem: Meteohub is not properly sending email notices for connection failure or for low battery. I have verified all of my email settings are correct and sent a test message, but actual notifications are never sent, even though I have selected "notify immediately" and the sensor failure and battery warnings show up in the system log as expected.

Also I see that the Davis website has finally added an FAQ entry on this subject -- apparently they've finally acknowledged that it actually is a problem with their hardware, although of course they blame outside sources rather than their own poor design.

I'm going to try their suggestion of running the base station off of battery power and see how stable the connection is with that setup, and I'll report back.

I've now gathered sufficient data to confirm the suggestions made on the Davis forums -- running the VP2 station on battery power makes it much more stable and has completely eliminated the problem of lost connection between it and Meteohub.

I've been running the system on battery for a month now, and have suffered no connection problems, whereas on AC power I was having problems several times per week... so my advice to any VP2 USB users is to run on battery power.

It's a shoddy design by Davis, but at least there's a remedy that does not require voiding your warranty!

Hello,

i found a solution. a new usb-cable with magnet-filter ( cable is from a usb-harddisk ) No connection issue after install. It's so easy :-).
