SFTP failure: Couldn't read packet (Invalid reply SSH 2.0). **solved**

Post by ewagnernl »

I have tried almost everything to change my upload to my website hosted by STRATO from Ftp into SFTP.

I continuously receive an error that the SFTP upload has failed: Couldn't read packet and Invalid reply "SSH-2.0-OpenSSH7.5p1

See attached screenshots. Any suggestions from the members on the forum?

I have still two weeks left before STRATO will end the unsecure FTP support. SSH access with Filezilla works fine. I can also configure user start map and other settings. Only my Meteobridge PRO upload is not working

You have to select Event "SFTP Upload" instead of "FTP Upload".

Probably the wrong screenshot attached to the message. But SFTP events will result with the same error message, couldn’t read the package.

Even the Test SFTP message is already failing.

In the end it turned out that Strato enforces a specific settings for the underlying ssh transfer that none of the openwrt dropbear ssh clients (even the very newest ones) do support. This way nearly no embedded device will be able to deliver data via SFTP to strato (webcams, printers, etc). Only way around is to avoid Strato as hosting partner. Sorry.
