Multiple temp/humidity sensors?

Post by obhwx »

I would like to set up temperature monitoring in my home for various locations: crawl space, basement, attic, garage etc... I set up a WMR200 system with Meteohub and it has been happily working for a year or more now, so I know it will let me do the graphing and such that I need.

The question is: since I don't need the anemometer etc... that I have to purchase with the WMR200. Is there another bundle I should consider that would be more cost effective for my purposes?

Thanks in advance.

I'm puzzled. It sounds as though you already have a WMR200. You can have a total of 10 temp/hum sensors with a single WMR200 base unit. Is that not enough?
Or is it that you want a more economical route that to buy a load of these?

Assuming you want wireless, an alternative might be an RFXCOM receiver. That can talk to Meteohub, can received your existing WMR200 sensors and a whole range of other OS sensors too, including the cheaper '3 channel' sensors such as this and this.

With the RFXCOM it is possibel to have more than 3 "3 channel" extra sensors, provide you are happy to accept that occasionally one or a pair or the extra sensors will conflict and you'll loose their signals for a few hours.

I have 6 "3 channel" sensors! The one extra sensor that I want constant reporting from is on its own channel and so has no conflict problem, for the others I am happy to accept occasional signal loss (e.g. not getting a signal from a soil temp sensor for a few hours is not a big deal!).

Relative costs would depend on the total number of sensors you had in mind.

Thanks for the reply- I'll take a look at the options you suggest.

Some clarification: I set up a WMR200 in Vermont at my mother's house to monitor conditions up there via her satellite Internet link. I live in New Jersey, so I am looking at solutions for some interior temperature monitoring. I also run another online weather station where I work a couple of blocks away, so the wind/rain data would duplicate what I can already get from that station.

I also bought a spare NSLU2, so it would be simple to purchase another copy of Meteohub.
