Erroneous Rainfall Totals - via Davis Retransmit

Post by Mattk »

Anybody re-transmitting from a Davis console to a MBPro as very close range < 300mm? if so what is your sensitivity setting and/or has anybody seen bursts of invalid rain data? Davis console recording rain ok but MBPro appears to be picking up a lot of noise which appears to be affecting the total rain

Did you try to set RF sensitivity on Meteobridge "Station" tab to a minimum? -50db or alike?

I had dropped it down to -40db as signal was running around -27db and so far no further spikes. Would -50db be better?

Cancel that, hit another spike, am trying -50db, rainfall signal is -25db as is most of the other signals apart from Wind which is -38db

An update on this which at this stage tends to relate to the Re-transmit option?

Unit is a MBPro red, involved is a VP2 ISS, a Vue ISS, 2 Envoys both with WLIP, trying to re-transmit from either Envoy to a MBPro via RF as the distance to the VP2 ISS is at some distance.

Re-transmitting from either Envoy has the same issue, erroneous rain totals & rates, also higher wind speeds and just way to consistent, like 10 m/s with very little difference between max and average gust. This does not appear to be related to Envoy to MBPro separation distance <300mm, does the same at distances of a couple of metres and have not been able to control the output via the signal strength.

Also have MBPro reds in very close proximity (< 15omm) to standard multiple ISS's without any issues. MBPro direct to Vue ISS no issues.

Have thrown a repeater beside the MBPro and using direct from ISS option, not a problem at any distance. data via WLIP and MBPro is in tune

So far points to the re-transmit option? Anybody else running re-transmit configuration?

Thanks for your analysis. So far I had not received reports or seen spike issues myself when using the retransmit option. But not many are using this and you are known to look deeper into these subjects as the most of us. I started thinking if this is an overlooked SW issue but evaluation code for normal and retransmit packets is the same. As transmitter IDs are different I would also rule out that both types of data are received and some trouble is started by that. Very strange...
