RS-232 to ethernet adapter ** solved **

Hi!

I want to know if can I use a rs-232 to ethernet adapter, like a TROY500 to send data wirelessly from a wmr-968 to a nslu2 runing meteohub?

I doubt that this will work, because it depends on drivers you have to install on your PC to get this WLAN-RS232 simulated as a serial port to your system.

These drivers are not there for Meteohub. If it is a plain socket connection Meteohub could connect via TCP/IP, but this is just a hope.

I would propose to solve it the other way round: Place the Meteohub at the weather station and then make use of a WLAN-Bridge to connect the Meteohub via WLAN. This will work for sure and should be less expansive as being bred&butter technology. Instead of WLAN you can also use an ethernet-over-power connector to use your main power cabling to transport data.

I was thinking to use the remserial to access a WMR968 over a network.

This software can be donwloaded at http://lpccomp.bc.ca/remserial/. Maybe you can pack this solution in a future release of meteohub.

There is a solution, developed by Joe Jaworski, to get wheather data from a Davis Vantage Pro, using a serial to ethernet device, like this Troy500, unless it's using an UTP cable instead a wireless connection. You can check it at Joe Jaworski home page.

How can I connect Metrohub to WLAN? There are wireless drivers compiled with Meteohub?:unsure:

Hi,
just take a WLAN bridge that is connected to the ethernet port of Meteohub and makes it accessible to your WLAN.

Linksys WET54G or similar will do the trick.
