Shocking - don't shuffle your feet!!!

Here a new twist.... I have 2 Ebox 4300's now up and running - and as I've been playing with them these past couple of days - I've gotten some occasional shocks....you know....static electricity when you touch a metal object....specifically on the 4300 in this case...

Well that little static shock has a nasty effect - it stops the Ebox from working and does something to the software so basically you have to reboot.... It's happened like 5 times across the 2 machines.... Guess I need to find some little anti-static pad....usually it's not a problem in my house - but it has been a very dry winter here in Denver --- so I guess I better change the humidifier filter! :S

I wonder if the problems you had with the ALIX 3D2 systems might have had anything to do with that?
Could they perhaps have been even more sensitive?

I think you said that there was no problem when Boris re-booted, just when you did it. Could it be that the difference was that he was working remotely, totally ruling out static effects?

Just a wild thought...

:huh: That's an interesting thought! I know that sometimes getting the Alix Rebooted was a completely random chance that they came back on as sometimes it took me turning the power on and off mutltiple times (which was to unplug it from the box).....so it could be a possibility - plus I have cats that hang out too!

I did find an anti-static mat on line for $15....I may get one - especially for my remote site...

Here too - but with our humidity levels static is far less of a problem!

Good suggestion - I went ahead and grounded the case to my houses electrical ground system - should be good to go!

Hi

The power supplies on these units are normally a switch mode type power supply, this will in turn have no earth return. The mains input side is normally a two pin mains plug, if this is so then there is no earth return to the supply socket.
