Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
Hi,
I'm planning on installing Meteohub on a Linksys NSLU2. My current setup is:
Vantage Pro2 -> Wireless Weather Envoy for VP2 (USB) -> PC
I'm just trying to take the PC out of the equation now. Does anyone else have a similar setup and if so, how are the results?
Thanks!

Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
Yes, I'm using an NSLU2 Meteohub with a VP2 Envoy, but I have a WeatherLink IP installed instead of a USB logger. The recent firmware revisions have gotten the Meteohub to function well with the WLIP. In my set up, the Meteohub acts as an uploader to Weather Underground and a graph maker/uploader to my weather web site. I chose it for its low power consumption and it works well.
I think the NSLU2 Meteohub might be too "fragile" to reliably handle storage of permanent weather records. For that I employ the Weatherlink software on a computer attached to the network and periodically (several times a day) download the WLIP logger archives to the computer. The computer doesn't have to be on continuously, only when I'm using it for other purposes. This is now (with the more recent firmwares) a very robust set up that will not lose the long-term data as might happen if the Meteohub has a problem with a USB drive.
If I had a serial or USB logger attached to the Envoy, I could not download the data to the WeatherLink software and would be at the mercy of a USB drive's reliability on the Meteohub. Also there are times that I want to adjust/re-calibrate the baometric pressure readings or set alarms. The computer has to be connected to the Envoy to do that and the Meteohub would have to be detached if I was using a serial or USB logger.
For me, a WLIP with the Meteohub is a good combination.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm not as concerned about downloading data to the USB stick. I'm more concerned about real time data. So for my setup, I should be good you think?

Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
If you mean real time data that would be uploaded to a site such as Weather Underground or your own web site, then yes, you would be good and the Meteohub can be excellent for that.
The Meteohub does record the data to the USB stick and of course the Meteohub software is on there too. So if there is a problem, e.g. data corruption, then there is a potential to stop the uploads. I had a USB stick problem, but my Meteohub was pretty reliable about uploading the real time data except it kept rebooting and recomputing the data every 9-48 hours. It still mananged to get the uploads out during each of these events.
Repair of this problem involved a simple building of a new USB stick for the NSLU2. The hard part was getting the old data out of the old stick, but that wouldn't affect you if you weren't interested in retaining the data on the old USB stick.
I hope this answers your questions.

Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
Yeah, I think I may be good then. Right now, Weatherlink on my PC produces an html file that is written every minute. I then have an FTP program that uploads this file to my outside web server every 2 minutes. Then, I run a cron job on my outside web server that archives the data from the uploaded file into a mysql database about once every hour. That is all I need for my needs.
So as long as I can produce a similar file of weather stats in text/html/xml format that can be uploaded to my outside web server reliably, then it's golden!

Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
I have that exact same setup except I use a serial logger rather than USB.... I even just upgraded the firmware this past week on the Envoy.
I upload to a WD Live site and to weather underground every minute and also upload a basic html file direct from within Meteohub for easy text based page for cell phones.... All works great!
Good Luck!

Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
Have you looked over the 4.x manual on the Documentation page here. It would pretty well cover your questions.
As far as uploading some html format to your server, you could set up an HTML template page with all the various data "place holders" on it and set that to FTP upload as frequently as every minute to your server. The upload frequency configuration for this is on the graph upload page. The design/set up of your HTML template would be done outside the Meteohub and then the finished page would be moved to the Meteohub's Samba drive on your networked on to your computer. The section 2.11.4 HTML Templates in the manual describes this.

Beautiful! Thanks for your input AAMFlyer.
Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
Thanks d_l, that's exactly how I want to do it! Thanks for the reference too!
Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
By the way, are any of you running version 4 of Meteohub with your envoy or is it best to stick with 3.3?
Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
3.3 worked very well with my Envoy, but I upgraded to 4.x versions because of the improvements when connecting to a Weatherlink IP data logger. If you had one of those, then I'd say t would be mandatory to use a later 4.x version. I'm now on 4.2rc3, and it seems to be working stabily.
I don't know if there are improvements in the 4.x versions that you would need to have with a USB logger.

Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
I'm using the most current version....no problems!
Re:Meteohub with Davis Wireless Weather Envoy
Great to hear guys! I'll use 4.x and upgrade it along the way!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hallo,
um die maximale Böen-Geschwindigkeit und nicht die durchschnittliche im gewählten Auflösungszeitraum zu erhalten, muss \"wind0-gust-max\" als Sensor für die Grafik gewählt werden.
