Disabling unnecessary protocols? **solved**

Post by skyewright »

Discussing ways of improving signal reception with Bert at RFXCOM[1] he mentioned that if you only need certain protocols, disabling the ones that are not needed can help to optimise reception. He suggested disabling X10, ATI, ARC tech using RFreceiver.

Does Meteohub's automatic configuration of the 70003 during initialisation already do this disabling of unwanted protocols?

If not, and I made those changes using RFreceiver would the Meteohub automatic configuration wipeout my changes when I reconnected it?

Meteohub sets the 70003 to receive all protocols during start-up. As a result your configuration will be overwritten.

But perhaps there might be some benefit in this \"optimisation\" if only OS sensors are being read?

I am finding that some of my WMR928 sensors are not getting through very often (but the WMR200 sensors, and the WMR928 'extra' sensors in similar positions do well), so any optimisations that are available sound attractive to me. :-)

Maybe an option?

Hard to believe that rf conditions do improve based on the number of selected protocols... but we can try.

As Meteohub does not make use of non-oregon sensors, i will strip this down with the next update.

My impression was that any 'optimisation' would be based on the idea that if RFXCOM had less protocols to consider theer would be less chance of it getting confused by ambiguous byte patterns?

Whatever the logic, if it works I'll be delighted, and if it doesn't then nothing lost.

I look forward to trying out the update.

Now using 2.1a, and so far as I can tell the 'optimisation' has made little if any difference. Oh well. Thanks for trying.

PS.
Fortunately, moving my WMR928 rain gauge to its 'proper' position (it was previously in a temporary location) has vastly improved signal pickup - even though it is now almost twice as far away from the receiver! :)
