USB data stream shuts down. MR2030-Ultimeter 2100

Post by LaSt »

Hello. I have had a MR3020 v1 running reliable for years, with a not so reliable Oregon station. I decided to switch to a Peet bros Ultimeter 2100, connected via a FTDI RS232-USB cable, and removed the old USB hub.
When connected or rebooted, serial data transfers for a minute or so, and then stops completely. FTDI goes completely dark. Plugging USB out and in, restarts the connection for a new period.
Meteobridge is at latest 5.6 sw. What may be the problem?

Maybe the USB hub? Is the FTDI interface deemed to be the same as the USB hub?

@Mattk; Not exactly sure what you mean? The USB hub was removed, because I was under impression that it was only needed with the old station, that was USB 1.0.
This is the FTDI cable used: https://ftdichip.com/products/usb-rs232-we-1800-bt_5-0/ The Peet Bros station has a RS232 I/O

Putting the USB hub back, actually solved the problem.

Yes that would have been my understanding even though it's only based on what I've heard as I only ever used the MR3020 in the early days with WLIP. The USB hub is for the MR3020 not for the station.

So your setup is now MR3020 -> USB hub then FTDI from USB hub to station?

Yes, that's it.

My impression from the MB-documentation, is that the hub is needed only for the older stations, that are USB 1.0.
Both the MR3020, and the FTDI should be USB 2.0. But it works now, that is the main thing.

USB serial converters based on FTDI FT323RL chip should work without the USB hub fine.
Having said this, may be your USB hub is powered and by that helps to feed the station with power?
Or you don't have a true FT232RL converter but a China fake? There are lots out there!

No worries, OPENWRT drivers for FT232RL in Meteobridge do not brick fake chips like the FTDI PC drivers did in the past. FTDI earned a lot of complaints for being that aggressive.

Good day, I managed flashing TP-Link TL_MR3020 V3.2 successufully with meteobridge. When I connected the usb to Peet Bros. 100 (i/O port 6p6c jack) with this cable https://www.communica.co.za/products/sr-data-link-cable. No data are being recorded/logged. Could this be the wrong cable? Thank you

Driver does not support Prolific PL23A3 chips, older PL2303 work fine. Please go to FTDI chipset, if you cannot get PL2303 for sure (distributors often don't know the difference).
