Attach a Wifi antenna to NANO SD. **solved**

Post by 36260 »

Hello to everyone
I've been running NANO SD attached to a VP2 console for more than 3 years with great satisfaction. To me, the only weak point is related to WIFI which sometimes is not very reliable. I've got a professional grade network install with Unifi AP's. VP2 is powered by a 5V/1A power supply. I know that Wifi signal can be boosted from the interface. However I noticed there is a wifi connector attached to the board. I'm wondering whether there are recommandations to attach or not to attach a wifi antenna to it
Thank you

So you have a Red strap Nano then?

Also run Nano's (Red & Black) from Ubiquiti AP's and have not had any issues. What are your typical Tx distances?

Thanks @Mattk. Yes indeed a red strap. Any idea whether a Wifi antenna could be attached?
Console is at 7m max from AP, on the path two concrete walls 20cm thick.

NANO is programmed not to feed the uFL connector, therefore I don't think attached something to it will make any difference.
As NANO is weakly powered by the console putting more punch on the WiFi might make it stall/reboot.

Thank you. The power supply is strong enough to cope with wifî power increase. However, since the OP I had to troubleshoot an issue in the rather large network. I discovered that Synology surveillance station that is managing 3 security cameras was flooding the network with multicast packets. A « broadcast storm control » multicast has been set at NAS port level and everything is back to normal.
