LAN login no go with Chrome?

Post by glennpm »

I've been chasing a ghost in trying to log into Meteobridge on my LAN computer using Chrome. I chased this yesterday and found one thread mentioning in passing that the same had happend to them. I have a permanent IP for my MR3020v2 of 192.168.1.45. After seeing this thread, I tried on a laptop and another desktop which both have Chrome and I could login fine.

- same router
- same firewall
- same Chrome browser

I started Chrome in a new Chrome incognito with all addins disabled but it made no difference.
I installed another browser, Slimjet, and I could logon on the same computer.

Any ideas?

It works fine here with Chrome on Mac. I guess it might be some browser cache issue?

Thanks, clearing the cache has not worked. I also tried deleting and then copying my user folder from my laptop, where meteobridge can be loaded, onto my desktop, but no good. Still working on it and will post any sucess here.

I found a solution but I don't understand it.

As mentioned I am able to login to meteobridge on my other two LAN computers either with Windows 11 or Ubuntu with this:

http://192.168.1.45/cgi-bin/meteobridge.cgi

The above will not work with my main desktop. I jsut looked into my chrome history and found another URL and this works but why?

The second link is the remote login.

May be your Chrome is on security steroids and does not allow to connect to plain http but enforces https? May be it also reverts http to https (which will not work as the meteobridge webinterface does not support https as it is assumed to operate in your LAN which is regarded to be a safe environment where transport encryption is not a thing.

Google is known to overdue a bit in that regards. Please check browser settings to make it a bit more reasonable again.
