I reverted to PHP 8.2.4 and the backup works as expected. Fails in PHP 8.3.1 and only displays blank screen

When i press backup, it just goes to a blank screen. on the admin page is displayed "locked" at top of page. was trying to backup before applying latest update. using php 8.3.1. last update applied was 2024-R2

good morning I havent installed PHP 8.3.1 im using PHP 8.3.0RC5 perhaps over the weekend ill install 8.3.1 and see what happens but on PHP 8.3.0RC5 im not getting the blank screen which normally indicates some mismatch , that said on new installations of PHP its not uncommon to find numerous PHP modules disabled by default this can cause the white screen "not playing ball" . screenshot is a successful backup using PHP 8.3.0RC5.

bear with me I will look into it ASAP ..

a simple update is pending with so minor fixes so if I FIND SOMETHING RELATED to this ill add it to the update..

Good Morning

I finally got around to installing PHP 8.3.1 , i did not experience any anomalies . I ran the back up as normal and success return with a zipped stored back up in the Weather34 folder .

i would check that your 8.3.1 INSTALL has not disabled zip library modules or other modules.

Lorenzo alerts added ..ignore demo value just me setting a a value to trigger it..

simple update later this evening(Monday 15th)

the jan 15 update says verified for 8.3.1 but i sill get a blank screen when i try to backup template. any clue what php setting might affect this?

also, i had to do master template as template 8 and 9 didn't show despite recent updates. the update timer sits at 54 years. i had to replace data_updated.php from an old template to get it to update.

watch template on apple watch ultra only fills 2/3rds of screen. maybe i'm missing how to enlarge it.

Good Morning John

I am running PHP 8.3.1 on my local server(basically an old mac mini designated as a server, ive been using this for around about 9 years,its ideal for running a local web host for developing)

I am not experiencing any anomalies you have mentioned in regards to running a backup again I ran it again this morning with no problems.

I dont tend to like getting involved in server side issues that are NOT visible to me and NOT owned by me because the risk factor of breaking things are always there , so you will have to educate yourself on resolving localized issues in regards to server side errors (i understand you may think its the template back up script , but unless I can reproduce it locally I stand little chance of resolving it for you.

Things I religiously do prior to upgrading PHP on the local server is grab a screenshot of the phpinfo.ini file output and then after upgrading if I have any issues I compare the previous to the upgraded one this is tedious but useful when dealing with upgrade issues and errors etc.

check ZIP related modules https://www.php.net/manual/en/book.zip.php (google will return a wealth of information on various extensions/modules for php.

if you are unfamiliar with phpinfo

The phpinfo() function provides a detailed overview of your server’s PHP configuration.

PHP Version:
This section provides the version of PHP installed on your server. Keeping your PHP version up-to-date is crucial for security and performance.

Server API: This tells you the interface between the web server and PHP.

Loaded Configuration File:
This shows the path to the php.ini file currently in use. This file contains all the PHP configuration options for your server.

Loaded Extensions(Modules):
This section lists all the PHP extensions loaded on your server. Extensions add functionality to PHP.

Create a new file and name it info.php for example

Write the following line of code in the file info.php :


<?php phpinfo(); ?>


Save the file and upload it to the root directory of your server using FTP.

then in your browser simply type yoururl/info.php

Apple Watch Ultra ..

the apple watch BROWSER USE is not much or very user friendly as it always dependent on third party browser's for apple watch , only one I used was called Parity it works fine , there are many others but 99% are paid subscription apps which Im tired of tying myself up in app subscriptions and hardly have any use .
I dont have Apple Watch Ultra to hand my wife owns one but she wont appreciate me pestering her at 6am in the morning whilst she is preparing for work and its her personal thing she is very dependent on it so perhaps at the weekend I will try . I have a SERIES 8 45MM and it works fine using the free app PARITY https://apps.apple.com/us/app/parrity/id1448208309

the way i view webpages on apple watch is by emailing link to a rarely used account. if you click on a web link in that email, it displays the webpage somehow. no third party apps

i ran the 8.2.4 and 8.3.1 php.ini through a text comparer https://www.diffchecker.com/text-compare/ (might save you some time in future comparisons). nothing really different. guess I'll try the next php version to see if it goes away.

I wasnt aware of the apple watch method so good to learn something new so thank you for that could be useful going forth, using that method I got more or less same as you were seeing so I adjusted the css for the apple watch theme . simple run this through the updater it only contains one file for the AW theme .I will include it in a later Simple Update but if anyone else needs it its here ..screenshot before and after below

reference php 8.3.1 im afraid without deeper access its not posiible for me to offer any solutions, ideas etc as seen above dealing with apple watch issue i was able to replicate it and try and improve once i can see the issue.without seeing the issue or able to replicate it it is basically not something I am prepared to get into, past experiences tells me keep away . have a good Brian ..

good morning

as I said previously in replies the likelihood an extension/module was disabled in new PHP install it happens but hopefully now you know how to diagnose and enable extensions/modules etc when issues arise locally . the common tell tell sign for me is when I cant replicate same issue locally it often is 99.9% of the time points to localised server issue/difference , just something that I got used too over the years of doing this template.
anyway have a good day I'm sure in the future I will improve the APPLE WATCH theme to be visually better along with some functionality .

Im do for an Apple Watch upgrade in June this year so likelihood I will come away with an ultra 2 only concern for me is the bulkiness I like the original less bulkier apple watch design , my Apple watch S8 was a free replacement for a S7 that died (dead battery) after just over a year so they replaced it with a Series 8 which at the time was the latest apart from original ULTRA ..anyway enough of gadget talk back too template..
