If you put that URL into a normal browser does it retun the expected .JPG?

This is exactly the right suggestion/question. Adrian did let me login remotely on his Meteobridge and it turned out, that the URL returns an error message about wrong credentials instead of an image.

@Adrian: bring in a working URL. You are not facing a Meteobridge issue.
