MB Pro2 not showing up in Windows Network list

Post by snowmet »

Windows 10
Meteobridge Pro 2 SW version 6.2

Currently connected to the same home network:
Meteobridge Pro (Red) 192.168.1.92
Meteobridge Pro2 (Black) 192.168.1.93

Having had a Meteobridge Pro for several years, I decided to upgrade to a Pro2 and installed it yesterday.

With my Pro version, METEOBRIDGE was listed in my Network listing in Windows Together with my logged-on PC and a NAS drive.
Clicking on METEOBRIGE then showed the Data folder which contains the Chart etc. sub folders.
(Note, this Data folder is not the same as the data that is backed up from within Meteobridge itself, or the Config data)

This was very useful because I used to create a weekly chart and others and then I would save the Data folder to my PC at the same time that I backed up my WeatherLink and WeatherDisplay that is stored on the PC.

However, there is no separate METEOBRIDGE network listing for the Pro2, which means that I can't access the Data folder directly in the way that I can for the pro.

I can access MB Pro2 screen via its IP address as normal

I've compared the settings / Information of the Pro and Pro2, but can't see anything different that would be causing this.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Have you confirmed under System>Administration>Security SMB is Enabled? SMB User only / SMB Guests allowed etc

Windows have also tightened SMB security which does create issues between some versions of Windows and SMB / Samba

Win 10 should be ok with the Pro2 as was Win 8. Pro2 doesn't like Win 7 & SMB

Yes, it's set up as SMB Gests Allowed (same as for the MB Pro).

The only difference between the MB Pro and the Pro 2 in that section is the New HTTP Password: section
MB Pro - box = blank white

MB Pro2 - box = yellow with eleven even dots in I assumed that this represented the default meteobridge password
I did try typing in meteobridge in the new box and confirm box then Save / Reboot, but it came back showing the same yellow box with the dots in afterwards

You can access the SMB share of the PRO2 as with the PRO by not using the NETBIOS name but the IP instead.
How to: https://knowledgebase.45drives.com/kb/k ... and-macos/

Please note the WIn10 is totally outdated. May be this is the reason for not showing data from the newer NMB s or SMB on the PRO2.

it has nothing to do with the Windows version - of course SMBv1 needs to be enabled in the Windows features
If there is more than one share named METEOBRIDGE in the same network (subnet), only one will be possible to be shown. Which one is undefined.
If you have e.g. two MB installations active at the same time and want to access both as a share, you have to enter the IP of the other one in Windows Explorer: e.g. \\192.168.1.44
in order to know which installation was fastest to catch the METEOBRIDGE share name, I have created a subdirectory under ..\data with the IP of the installation
e.g.
data\23-Pro2
data\19-RPi
or
data\07-Pro
so I can recognize right away which one has the share METEOBRIDGE and which one I have to add via IP

Thanks, both of you, for your replies. I got sidetracked with other things and have just got back to looking at this. With your help, I've now got this sorted. I've added some details in case this is useful for anybody else with a similar problem.

Background
MBPro (Red)
I've had my MBPro for five years and, from the start, that was shown as METEOBRIDGE in my network. Clicking on it showed me the data folder. I left the IP address as dynamic, but reserved the MAC on the router as 92.

MBPro2
When I recently added the MBPro2, I also left the IP address as dynamic, but reserved the MAC on the router as 93. I can't remember if the device name was originally shown on the router as METEOBRIDGE or MBPRO2. It's possible that I changed the device name on the router from METEOBRIDGE to MBPRO2 in the Reserved Addresses section to avoid confusion.

I expected to see both METEOBRIDGE and MBPRO listed in Network, but METEOBRIDGE was still the only one showing.
Angry IP Scanner shows the Host name for MBPro (IP92) as METEOBRIDGE
and the Host name for MBPro2 (IP93) as MBPRO2.

a question
Is the Host name the same as the network share name. Can the share name be changed or is that fixed to that specific device? i.e., if the Pro and the Pro2 both have METEOBRIDGE as the fixed share name, then me changing the device / host name in the router makes no difference as far as the network is concerned - it will still see two share names with METEOBRIDGE and that is what was still causing the problem.

The solution - what I did.
I use Free Commander instead of Windows / File explorer, mainly as it gives me the option of a dual pane view, amongst other things, although the principle is the same.

I mapped a network drive to Z (Tools / Connect to network drive).
Enter path in Folder and click on Finish (Not Browse!)

Folder: \\192.168.1.93 gave a "Windows cannot access \\192.168.1.93" error
Folder: \\192.168.1.93\data worked MBPRO is now mapped as drive Z
Folder: \\MBPRO2\data also works
(note MBPRO2 is my Host name as mentioned above)
Drive letter Z is now showing in Free Commander and the folders in the data folder are shown.

Because I prefer not to have external devices mapped unless necessary, I added the open Z window - data (\\MBPRO2) - to the Free Commander Favorites (Favourites add active panel folder). This is now shown in Favorites as MBPRO2 - the name can be changed to whatever you want.

Now accessing the data folder of the MBPro2 is simple. In Free Commander, I just click on the Favorites tab, then click on MBPRO2 and up pops the root of MBPRO2, showing the data folder, just like the view you get for MBPro if clicking on the METEOBRIDGE device in Network.

I then disconnected mapped drive Z.

Note - the above process doesn't add MBPRO2 as a network share like METEOBRIDGE is for MBPro. MNPRO2 still won't be shown under networks.

There is one difference between the MBPro and MBPro2 data folders. The MBPro2 data folder also contains a Backup folder. This folder contains the database backup files (dbase......gz) that have been saved to the MBPro2 internal memory.
