RS485 over IP - Thoughts

Post by Mattk »

RS485 stations typically connect to MB via a (FTDI) USB to RS485 Converter connected direct the the MBPro/2 USB port.

Is there any way within the existing (or future) communication architecture to affect an RS485 over IP link so the MB picks the sensor stream/data over the connected network? Essentially being able to remotely select/change a station to use from MB login. Some thoughts that come to mind

1) Station Serial RS485 to Ethernet Converter, MBPro/2 Weather Station pointing to the IP of the Converter

2) Station Serial RS485 to USB Converter connecting to a Router USB instead of the MB USB port? MB pointing to the Router IP for data stream?

3) Station Serial RS485 connected/cabled direct to a Router RS485 Connector port -> MB via network/IP

Other options?

Currently Meteobridge does not support IP communication for stations that come with serial interfaces. Only option to enlarge the distance of serial communication via IP would be to use two device servers in hardware like explained here: https://www.perle.com/supportfiles/seri ... ling.shtml
