WD export 'not' on-going

Post by skyewright »

I have WD export setup in Meteohub, and \"Generate Data for WD ongoing\" is ticked, but on several occasions when I have gone to check the export file I have discovered that it is considerably (e.g. days) out of date.

Clicking 'Save' again quite quickly brings wd_export.csv up to date. At some later time the mmyyyylg.txt files catch up to that point, but it does not appear to be \"on-going\" (which I assume means 'records will continue to be added to mmyyyylg.txt' as data is received.).

Am I misunderstanding something?

You are right, it should proceed as you assume. I have to admit that I don't use WD a lot. Meteohub works really fine with WSWIN, where you don't need to manually import a file, but WSWIN automatically gets in sync (cool feature!).

Will test \"ongoing generation\" with WD soon... stay tuned.

Thank you.

While you are looking, could you check the 'dewpoint' calculation again please? I just needed to patch a WD log, and I needed to divide the dewpoint figures by 10 for them to make sense, even though I am using 2.1a.

Perhaps a bit like WD's clientraw.txt feature?

That's not something I would normally use (I've no plans for using it in the future either) but I just did a small test and across my network and I now have a freshly installed 'stationless' WD on one machine reporting exactly the same data as my 'normal' WD (connected to a WMR200). The 'normal' WD has been set to create 'clientraw' files in a mutually accessible folder (I used wdisplay\\webfiles), and that is all the the new install is looking at.

The facility can work by accessing clientraw data across the web.

Maybe worthwhile for you to take a look at?

This link is about the clientraw formats:

http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index. ... 534.0.html

This link is about how to set up the 'client' copy of WD:

http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index. ... 225.0.html

Perhaps I shouldn't mention this, as there are other things I'd much rather you were working on, like sensor level factors and export/report, however your priorities may differ.

While looking for something else I noticed that apparently WSWIN can also produces clientraw files now. I understand they were originally developed as a mechanism for WD to provide data to WDL (WeatherDisplayLive), but it looks as though they may be becomming something of an unofficial 'standard'for passing Wx data (though I am not sure what the WD developer's views on this may be, as it is presumably 'his' format).

For your information...

Something I have noticed is that when I look in the export folder, the date/time of the mmyyyylg.txt file is right up to date - even though it only contains records up to the last time I clicked 'Save' on the WD export page.

Is the file perhaps being regularly updated with 'nothing'?

Further tests show that the file is being 'changed' at regular intervals, i.e. the file time & date changes - but no new data is added by those 'changes'!

The problem is still present in v2.2 (but dewpoint is now working :) ).

At 17 and 47 minutes past the hour the mmyyyylg.txt and mmyyyyextralog.csv files are 'updated', but no new data is added.

Could this extract from the system log be relevent:

Code: Select all

Mar 25 11:47:00 (none) cron.info /USR/SBIN/CRON[1862]: (root) CMD (nice /home/meteohub/wswincut 2>>/data/log/messages; nice /home/meteohub/wdcut 2>>/data/log/messages)
nice: /home/meteohub/wdcut: No such file or directory

v2.2b (and v2.2a) no longer give the "nice: /home/meteohub/wdcut: No such file or directory" error. :)

But WD export is still not "on-going". :(

The files still get "touched" at 17 and 47 minutes past the hour, but no fresh data is added at those times.

So far as I can tell, at present the only way of getting upto date data in the export files seems to be to go into the "WD Data Export" section of browser based admin and click 'Save'. That (in due course) brings the files up to date - but then they stay at that point till the next 'Save'. :(
