Davis Vantage- question

Post by Shody »

Hello, I'm from Croatia. In my country Davis is very very expensive, about 1300$. So, I decided to buy him from E-bay. If I buy him, do I have to buy and weather link cause I don't have that much money.

Can Davis Vantage works without weather link , just Virtual Weather Station. I have a plan to upload weather data and graphs on my web site ?

Thanks!! :)

So, I need buy weather link or what?

My plan is to connect Davis Vantage with VWS, and VWS will upload weather graphs to my web site. Some people told me that I do not need Weather Link , so I am confused now.

To connect a Davis to ANY computer you need a Data Logger (a bit of hardware). The only way of obtaining the Data Logger is to buy WeatherLink (a bit of software and a bit of hardware).

So if you want to connect the Davis to a computer then, regardless of whether or not you intend to use the WeatherLink software, you need to buy WeatherLink in order to get the hardware bit.

Does that make sense now?

I asked my friend who has the Davis and he told to me that I do not need weather link... Unfortunately, I do not have that much money for the weather link...
I don't know anymore... I'm confused. Maybe I will buy a WMR 200 or something else...

It is exactly as skyewright did tell you.

I strongly doubt that your friend knows a way how to extract weather data from a vantage without the data logger that Davis bundles with it's weather link software. But it is up to you...

When you are interested in using Meteohub, I would consider the wmr-928 as an interesting alternative.

Yes, I have some interests for meteohub but in future. Is possible to connect vodafone mobile connect card (USB) on the Alix or Nslu2 and send data to my web server?

I've put off buying a Davis Vantage Pro2 wireless unit for a few years, but I finally broke down and bought one. It assembled and installed very easily and I was collecting data within a hour of putting it up.

Thus far I have only found a small level of interference with my rigs. If I place the console very near the radio (ic-7800) and hook up the usb cable, I get some hash noise on all bands. The solution is to keep the console at least a few feet away...don't put it on top of the rig.

The software that comes the Davis isn't very good so i purchased the Ambient Virtual Weather Station Internet version. It's pretty good and has some much better graphics than the Davis software. There is also a wide variety of 3rd party software available that I have yet to explore. There must be at least a dozen other programs that will work with the Davis Pro2.
