Unexpected Bytes/Wrong Checksum Logged **solved**

First of all, please excuse me if this has already been discussed. The forum search is returning 0 results for all of my queries, and I have looked through manually, but have not found any similar issues.

I just installed my station yesterday. It's a Davis Vantage Pro 2, hooked up via serial with a USB converter. I don't know if that matters at all.

I'm uploading to Weather Underground and CWOP. I know my data is consistently (and correctly) getting to Weather Underground, except for the Solar Radiation value, which I have posted along with another user here as well. My data should be getting to CWOP, but I don't think their updates have added my station yet.

Which brings me to my question/\"problem\":

However, my data IS making it to Wunderground, and the Meteohub appears to be logging it correctly. I can see it in the Inspect Data.

Is this any cause for alarm? Rebooting it \"fixes\" it for a few minutes, then it starts throwing the errors again.

Hi Branson,

could this perhaps be a problem of the USB-stick ??

I already made bad experiences with sticks above 1 GB size and you should test such stick with the tool H2testw 1.4 from the download section.

This is the only way to check wether your stick is reliable...

It seems, though, that on lines like this:
logger (30.03.2008 00:12:40): wrong checksum 0xcc2a while 0x0000 expected.

the NSLU2 is not computing the expected checksum correctly, because it is getting a checksum with a value, while it is expecting a null (0x0000).

Next time I am at home (I live 100 miles away at college), I will check the USB stick. It's brand new, though.

Hi,
the reported unexpected bytes do do result from Meteohub pushing an ongoing request stream for more data packets to the Vantage. This is type of communication is quite robust (does not hold when a single request has not been answered, and therefore can more easily cope with some artifacts of the usb data logger of the vantage you can read about in other forums), but as a downside you get a lot of acknowledge data back, that Meteohub simply skips.

So everything is fine this way. I will strip down the verbosity of the logger in this respect as this is no information the user can make any use of.

The bad checksum thing is another case, here meteohub has received data that looks like a data packet but in the end the checksum indicates that is has been somehow disturbed data or that meteohub has not synchronized correctly to the data stream on this particular packet. It is normal to have these messages from time to time. I f there are a few of them every minute for a longer period, this might indicate a problem. So this is valuable information that Meteohub will continue to log.
