Wind Speed Question on WU

Post by bsparks »

Hello again!
Once again, search isn't working for me, so please excuse me if this has previously been asked.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having the following problem:
My wind speed on Weather Underground always seems to be 0, 2, 4, or 6 miles per hour on the data that is logged every 5 minutes. On rapid-fire updates, it seems to be a bit more correct. See here:
http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =KLAALEXA5

However, my data going to CWOP shows more variation in the wind speed:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi ... 40&last=12

Is this a known issue or is something else happening here?

Thank you!

Hi,
Windspeed is reported to WU in mp/h with one decimal. Looks like WU is purging the decimals. I checked with other weather stations at WU (which are not using Meteohub) and all I found have a reported resolution for wind speed of just one mp/h (no decimals).

So this seems to be a limitation of WU, but I don't understand why they throw away the decimals (when computing km/h and m/s from mp/h the decimals come in again for these :silly: ).

But would this explain why I never see 1 or 3mph? It always seems to be multiples of 2.

It still seems like something strange is going on with wind reporting. There is another station close to me, KLAALEXA4 on wunderground, that has a much different and varied wind graph. The wind always seems to be displayed in 2mph increments on the logged data, and usually with an x.9 on rapid fire and current data, where x is a whole number in mph. I know you said that they discard the decimal and round, but I am still trying to figure out the 2mph resolution.

Is there any way to see what Meteohub is sending to Weather Underground? I'm really trying to figure out what's going on here.

when you login via ssh you can initiate a weather network update in debug mode with \"/home/meteohub/meteonet -d\". It will take some seconds until data gets printed
