Meteohub Update 2.3a

Post by admin »

DEUTSCH:

Dieses Update behebt ein paar Bugs und erlaubt mehrsprachige Ausgaben der Zeitachse in Grafiken.

Link: http://www.meteohub.de/joomla/index.php ... &Itemid=29

---------------------------------------

ENGLISH:

This Update fixes some bugs and adds multilanguage support for the time aixs of the graphs.

Link: http://www.meteohub.de/joomla/index.php ... &Itemid=29

Changes since V2.3:

* Reduced verbosity in meteohub.log.
* Now deals correctly with Vantage wind direction 360°.
* Not satisfactory working webcam feature has been removed.
* Low-level code for data logging for Vantage has been changed to solve problems with data delayed in time.
* Support for non-English date texts in the graphs can be enabled by format command (in graph definition) 'set locale \"fr_FR\" '. Supported languages are German (de_DE), French (fr_FR), Italien (it_IT) and Spanish (es_ES). Before you can use this feature the additional update \"locale.upd\" has to be installed (http://www.meteohub.de/joomla/index.php ... &Itemid=29).
* starts FTP upload every 5 minutes only when there is new data to be uploaded. Remark: press \"save\" on FTP settings page to make the change happen.

NB! Troubble updating: Meteohub Update 2.3a

Post by WebDog »

OMG, this update gave me SERIOUS troubble!
Upgraded from 2.3 to 2.3a via web-interface as I have done several times now.

Oddly several settings were altered or erased after the upgrade. I.e. weather station type was reset! Lost all geographical info (i.e. position and height), and when updating my positon and pressed save I saw for a breaf moment the port number was set to 0 (zero), to late as I had already pressed save.

So now I have lost contact with the hub... please how do I reset the port?? I also noted that the FTP-port showed some random number as well!!!

God knows what else settings has been randomized

Update:
As I managed to set the correct weather station VP2 before saving the wrong port-number, my hub do upload correctly to my external server, but I have lost all contact with the control set-up. Even tried to reflash the hub but it still keeps the ip/port settings :(

Update 2 (2hours later):
 After reading the logfiles I noticed that port 7777 was active! Managed to access the web-interface and change port settings! *Then* I read the meteohub manual and YES on page 12 it clearly states what to do when misconfigure the port  Still I want to make other users aware that settings will be altered when upgrading.

Found a problem that can occur when Meteohub is reading the previous settings after having switched to version 2.3a.

All integers in the Web-Interface settings are affected. When you set them back to the desired values, operation will be fine again.

A fixed version will be released tomorrow. Sorry, for having overseen this nasty bug during my tests.

I fixed the bug, download should be ok now. Version has not changed, still 2.3a.

Again, sorry for any inconvenience.

In general, Before doing updates it might be a good idea to save the settings. So you can restore this without typing in all the details from scratch again.

I also ran into a problem when applying 2.3a using the web based upgrade from 2.3; once I applied the upgrade I could no longer access the unit through my firewall, but it was still uploading data properly to Weather Underground. Since I am 400 miles from the weather station I had to walk someone with local access through connecting- she found that the port number for the NSLU2 had reverted to 80 from 968. After she reset the port to its proper number the traffic started forwarding through the firewall NAT rule properly and I am able to connect again. So far it does not appear that other configuration data was lost during the upgrade.

I installed the 2.3a version that does NOT mention multilanguage support- I am a bit confused that there are two apparently identical versions 2.3a with different features listed? The Multilanguage version 2.3a says to apply it to version 2.3a?

Hi, sorry for the fuzz.

The update 2.3a that mentions multi-language support in the title is just installing some linux locale files. So this is a prerequisite to have the gnuplot having dates in other languages then English. This update doesn't have any other application specific features.

The regular update 2.3a (which had the nasty above discussed bug in the first run, but is clean of it now) brings some changes in the application.

You have to apply both, when you want multi-language support in the graphs.

I forgot to mention that the version that I updated to that failed to maintain the proper IP port number is the one labeled \"Update V2.3a (with \"erase settings bug\" fixed)\" which presumably should have kept the port information.

Hi,
as stated in my reply \"I fixed the bug, download should be ok now. Version has not changed, still 2.3a.\", the version 2.3a is ok now. Settings will not be erased during installation.

I just made the test and applied 2.3a to a fresh 2.3 system, everything is fine. As 2.3a has quite some bytes in it, web install might not work (no reboot and version number stays at 2.3). Please use file-based install, this always works, even for big update files, where the web interface might not do the trick.

Would that comment apply if the web interface was used to install a file that had been downloaded to the local network (which is what I tend to do)?

It seems odd that the only configuration item that appeared to have been lost when I used the web based upgrade option across an extremely slow satellite based Internet connection was the port number.

Would it be a good idea for me to re-apply the upgrade after downloading it to the NSLU2?

Can someone point me to instructions on how to use SSH to connect remotely to the NSLU2 and download the update into the \"transfer\" folder? My weather station is across an IP network from my location, so the SMB share is not accesible.

>>>
1. Copy the update in the \"transfer\" folder that Meteohub offers to on your LAN as a network drive.
2. Install this file with file-based in stall function. Path is \"/data/transfer/[myupdatefile]\"

To transfer a file via ssh is simple from a linux machine.

scp -P :

example:
scp -P 22 -u root /tmp/update-v2.3a.upd mymeteohub.dyndns.org:/data/transfer/

When asked for password, type \"meteohub\".

With Windows you need a ssh client. This normally comes with a GUI for file transfer...

Hmmm- I guess I should have set up the SSH port through the NAT firewall before leaving the weather station location.

Thanks for the SSH instructions.
