Switch from NSLU2 to ALIX

Post by rovinj »

I planning to switch from NSLU2 to ALIX, so wish to ask is someone can give my advice about which ALIX to choose (1d or 3d2)?
Are this the only ALIX able to run Meteohub?
Also I read about some problems with PSU of ALIX.1d, any suggestion about that?

I would go with a 3d3 or a 1d. 3d2 ist more complicated to setup, by lacking a VGA/keyboard interface for trouble shooting and setup.

Whether or not it's a problem will depend on how good your local electricity supply is.

Because of our location we have (in UK terms) a pretty variable mains supply. Ive not had the type of problem I had with the ALIX-1D with any other equipment so far as I'm aware, but I do run pretty much all computer equipment on 'standby' UPS's as a matter of course.

With the ALIX-1D I started with the standard PSU. It wasn't good enough (as evidenced by 'lockups') unless run via an on-line UPS. I solved the problem by getting a small power brick PSU of the right size.

So for me, buying the power brick in the first place would have been cheaper buying the standard and then replacing it, but neither PSU was very expensive and maybe the original PSU will come in handy for something someday. If our supply had been good enough then the original PSU would have been the cheaper option...

Only you know what your mains supply is like.
