USB hangs

Post by nanks »

The USB port for my WMR100 hangs every so often.
I have to hit the reset button to get communication
back. Its not the NSLU2, cause it happened when
I had it connected to a PC running wd also.

It seems to happen every 1-3 months so far. I don't
seem to be able to predict it.

Does this happen for anyone else? Has any one found
a solution?

Peter.

problems of this kind with wmr-100 are being dicussed in other forums as well. you might find some info in brians weather-watch forum for example.

It seems the the wmr-100 usb part is very sensible to noise. Some users could improve situation by adding ferrit cores to their usb connection cable, there are also shielded usb cables avail that might improve on this.

Does it apply also for WMR-200?

In the 4 months I get WMR-200 I haven't experienced a similar thing until a couple of weeks ago. From then, I had 2 times to reset unit...

Hi,
The usb cable I'm using has a ferrite core at each end.
But the location is close to a wireless router.
I'll read up some more and maybe try a fully shielded
cable.

Thanks, Peter.

The WMR100 seems to have special problems in this regard.

I've had mine since December.
I've reset the main console once when it decided that it thought it could see an extra sensor that didn't exist!
A few times I've seen the anemometer drop out and have reset that (on a few other occasions a drop out has happened during the night, then corrected itself after a few hours).
One thing I do try to do is to clear the buffer every couple of weeks. I download every day into WD, and that is supposed to clear the buffer, but there is some evidence that if the buffer isn't cleared manually now and again a 'wrap around' problem can occur when the buffer reaches the point where it is overwriting earlier data.

Hi,

First time it happened I assumed it was caused by datalogger capacity.

So I cleared the buffer and it was Ok., (I had at this moment 3 months data).

But second time was approx. a couple of weeks (or less) later, so no buffer capacity could cause it this time.

Another Spanish user, who has the WMR-200 working since 3 weeks now, posted a similar trouble today. He's running 2.3

So, could it be a version problem?

the usb hang problems with wmr-100 are reported in many forums and affect both softwares that can handle this station, WD and meteohub.

good reading on this: http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index. ... 548.0.html

While there is a specific problem reported that needs the wmr-100 to be power cycled I cannot do something on this. But when I get your messages here right, there might be an increase of usb hangs with the recent meteohub versions. I just checked code, but couldn't find any changes in usb hid code from 2.0d until now, that could explain this.

However, I have setup a long term test with one of my meteohubs and a wmr-100 now. May be I can spot a problem... stay tuned...
