Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
The console version is May 27 2005 - which apparently is prior the the introduction of version numbers.
Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
A firmware update would then be the place to start but that May 27 2005 version can not be updated direct from a PC and must first be updated to a suitable version using a Davis Updater. The first firmware wireless version #'s commenced with 1.6 (December 1, 2016) and it was from about this firmware version that direct from PC updates could be installed.
I think there are 2 options, get access to a VP2 updater (#6311VP2) and update to a version from which direct from PC updates can be run or acquire a new Console. I think finding a VP2 updater could be very hard today?

Can confirm NANO is ok with 2005 Console with FW1.9
Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
I gather that getting access to an updater is virtually impossible. I did check eBay, just in case, but no joy. I'm guessing that the very painful answer - at least to my wallet - is to bite the bullet and buy a new console. Or give up on the whole project for now.
Again, many thanks to everyone for their input!

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Risa, Updaters would have not been used now for at least 10+ years and doubt it would be something one would find on Ebay. Depending on your location your best bet would be to contact the closest Davis reseller, they may still have one but as mentioned hasn't been required since around 2006/07
Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Just a follow up with the end of the story...
I purchased a new Vantage Pro2 console. The original Nano exhibited the same behavior in the new console - which is to say no data received.
I acquired a new Nano and installed it in the new console. (I left the console unplugged and without batteries for several hours prior to installing the Nano, having read in some other thread somewhere that it was necessary to allow all power to the console to drain prior to installing a data logger). I configured the Nano and, low and behold, I have data!
I did not try the new Nano in the old console; I figured I'd quit while I was ahead.
Thanks again for everyone's help.

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Would have been interesting to try the new NANO in the old console if only to confirm the old firmware compatibility
Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Or destroy the new nano also?Mattk wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:57 am Would have been interesting to try the new NANO in the old console if only to confirm the old firmware compatibility
As long as we do not know what caused the failure of the nano, one should not gamble with the only working nano Risa has.
Probably it is was a "dead on arrival" nano.
But maybe the new nano will get destroyed also when inserted in this "old" console as the console itself can be faulty and being the cause of the problem?
Or any nano will get destroyed when inserted in any very old console as the cause is the old and rare version of the console software?
Or ?

Well yes that's another way of looking at this and we will probably never know one way or the other exactly what the actual issue was?wvdkuil wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 10:14 amOr destroy the new nano also?Mattk wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:57 am Would have been interesting to try the new NANO in the old console if only to confirm the old firmware compatibility

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Yes - that's the way I looked at it. It *would* have been interesting - but not interesting enough to risk destroying the second NANO when a replacement would certainly not have been forthcoming a second time

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Risa, there is no risk. We have already plenty of them in the market and apart from a few fails they are doing great. When I remember correctly Ed did test your return and it really looks faulty. Sorry for that, this was of course our failure. If needed I will feed you with new ones, until you are fine.

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
You might be willing to exchange them repeatedly - but I'm not sure Ambient Weather would be
. The price had gone up considerably when I went back to get a replacement - only because they are now bundling cloud access, which makes sense since it was a bit misleading (not intentionally) without it - and I pitched quite a fit to get a replacement sent without having to order at the new price or do an exchange. In all fairness, they would certainly have done an exchange at the original price, but my trip plans meant that wouldn't have worked.
In any case, when everything works, it really is very easy to set up.
Ed couldn't have tested mine, since they told me to keep it and toss it if the new one worked. However, I'd be happy to send it back to him for testing if that would be useful.
The only odd thing I notice with the new one is that the indoor temperature always reads around 80F. I'm assuming that's because the NANO generates heat and the indoor temperature sensor is physically close to where the NANO plugs in to the Vantage Pro2. It only changes by 1 degree when I leave the back cover off. It's mildly annoying, but I'll just live with it.
Thanks again,
Risa

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Glad to hear that it now works for you. on "Station" tab you have an option to compensate for heating up.
This options also adapts the display of the console, so it is the best way to handle that.
Like using the backlight display or inserting a Davis logger all this increases indoor readings a bit.
So we tried to make it as easy for you as possible to get around this with a few click on the web interface.

Re: Nano - No data being received from Davis Vantage Pro2
Thanks! I'll try that. I think I'm getting more than a 6 degree increase, just judging from other thermometers in the house, but I'll start with your suggestion and go from there.
Best,
