It is just a number. I don't understand why you are so focused to have this number in the expected range.
For me personally I couldn't care less, but may be I overlook something. Does it have a practical negative impact on you?
So I'll admit, it doesn't OVERLY matter. The issue is mainly pedantic. It's not in the proper range. My network controller doesn't list a vendor (because it's in an unassigned range), and there's the potential, albeit very small, for a collision down the road when IEEE assigns the range that it's currently in to some vendor. One potential way to secure a network is to now allow invalid MAC addresses on the network. This might qualify as that. =/ I'm actually wondering what the likelihood is that I'm not the only one affected by this.
But if I'm stuck with the bad MAC, then it is what it is. I guess maybe it's something to be aware of on future Vonger devices. If they're manually programming the MAC... wow.
