Cannot Connect to Meteobridge Remote Access **solved**

Post by crazyace »

Good Morning,

Is the Meteobridge remote access server down? I have been unable to remotely access my meteobridge server for the past several hours. It's always worked in the past but I'm getting the "Service Unavailable" error message below

same for me.
Is it proxy problem or meteobridge device itself?

Problem you encounter is not that some centralized infrastructure is down, but that the remote tunnel your Meteobridge did try to setup is not working for some reason. As this depends on many factors, I can hardly isolate why it is not working in a current situation. As it works in many situations I decide to have it implemented. Please remember that none of the other weather products out there is even capable of doing something close to that. I will try to improve this over time, but this is really difficult.

When you need bullet proof remote access, please do it the way you do it with all your other equipment in your LAN. Simply tell your router to forward a certain external port to port 80 of the Meteobridge in your LAN and if you are on dynamic WAN IP your router needs also to setup a dynamic DNS access with one of the the free DYNDNS services out there. Nothing special on Meteobridge here.

HI,

It was working for me under release released October 31, 2015, but it as stopped working under the current release.

Maybe a new introduced bug.

Hi,

I can't say exactly the date when the remote access stops working, but at least in October it was ok and since 4 or 5 day it doesn't work. I've now tested it also in a LAN environment with the same problem.
Is there a way to reset the id that is used in the remote access URL given by the meteobridge?

Regards, Achim

There is no newly introduced bug, it also does not have any relation to new software releases.

May be a reboot of your Meteobridge does help your system to setup a stable tunnel through
all the network stuff between your Meteobridge and our relay server, or not...

My remote access stopped working Saturday night November 7th. It has always worked until then and I do not think that I changed anything when the access stopped working. Is there a way that we could troubleshoot (logs, tracing, etc)?

I don't get how you can say its not a new introduced bug.

For one - a recent change that could be related
"uses "route -n" instead of "route" internally to avoid Meteobridge stalling admin pages in case DNS is very slow."

Maybe this has caused some other flow on network of host lookup issue.

Seems a bit strange that suddenly so many people are reporting an issue - don't you think?

Once I installed version 2.6 (Nov 9 build) remote access stopped working.
It was working for me on version 2.6 Nov 1, 2015, build 7445. I rebooted because I saw there was a software update and I have mine set to install update on reboot. I have not been able to connect since. This is in a vacation house so I can't easily cycle power. Meteobridge is posting data to various weather sites so I know it's working.

Folks, my belief is that this issue is not related to the latest release of MB. I have had this issue sporadically over the last year on a couple of devices I have. One on a VERY solid network (local fibre connection) and the other on a very remote (600 kms away) WiMax packet radio connection with round robin IPs. The latter is more problematic that the former, but I have had it on both systems. If anything there is a server issue, but look - it is 50 buck firmware on a $30 box. You want bullet proof? Do a true VPN/tunnel and/or port forwarding. And even with that config I get issues on my remote station. Too many moving parts. BTW, mine comes back up; there seems to be no rhyme nor reason why it drops or for how long it is down.
