Twitter String Sharing? - Existing Library/Archive?

Post by D2149 »

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a WeatherBridge Pro today from Ambient (will arrive later this week) to augment our station's current weather computer based feeds out to the internet. I am still running our dedicated iMac 27" running the final version of Lightsoft Weather Center for OSX 10.6.8 to handle the bulk of our data which we have been sending out since 2009 on this same rig. The machine has been running 24/7 for 7 years straight, so I wanted to have a backup plan in place should the machine ever fail. WBP seemed like a less expensive alternative to another desktop Mac.

Anyway, the first thing I want to use the WBP for is with our station's Twitter accounts which in turn send off to our station's Facebook page. Back before Twitter changed their API back in 2012, we had all this running on the Mac using LWC to generate the feeds to Twitter, but the API changes screwed all that up and I just closed it all down.

So... Now I need to rebuild all of our old Twitter/facebook strings in the Meteo format and was wondering if anyone has created a library/archive of common weather data strings for Twitter length posting?

Boris was kind enough to bash out a Meteo formatted example of the first string below which I can use to build out from, but if there are already existing, tested strings out there in the community, I figured why not see about getting access to those first and making edits to those.

Here are a few examples of what our station previously posted to Twitter from 2010 through 2012. I am looking to duplicate these in the Meteo format.

at 9PM: Temp: 42.3 F * WindChill: 42.3 F * Humidity: 82% * DewPoint: 37.2 F * Pressure: 29.92 inHg * Rainfall Total: 0.00 in

at 3PM: Temp: 51.7 F * WindChill: 51.7 F * RH: 80% * Dew: 45.7 F * Pressure: 30.10 inHg * UV: 0.50 * Solar: 56.00 * Rain: 0.00 in

Summer time scripts:

at 3PM: Temp: 88.8 F * HeatIndex: 85.2 F * RH: 22% * Dew: 45.0 F * Pressure: 29.92 inHg * UV: 4.00 * Solar: 628.00 * Rain: 0.00 in

(I am particularly interested in what a meteo version of the following string would look like)

Solar Highs Today: Temperature: 90.8 F at 3:23 PM * Solar Radiation: 786.00 watts/m^2 at 1:02 PM * UV: 5.50 at 1:01 PM

Thanks in advance for any input on this topic! :D

Here's my hourly observations that I receive as a text message on my phone via my carrier's email-to-SMS gateway:

[hh]:[mm] TEMP [th0temp-act=F.0:--] ([wind0chill-avg10=F.0:--])\n Hi/Lo [th0temp-dmax=F.0:--]/[th0temp-dmin=F.0:--]\n HUM [th0hum-act.0:--]%\n WIND [wind0dir-avg10=endir:--] [wind0avgwind-act=mph.0:--] G[wind0wind-max60=mph.0:--] \n Day Max [wind0avgwind-dmax=mph.0:--] G[wind0wind-dmax=mph.0:--] \n RAIN 1Hr [rain0total-sum60=in.2:--] Day [rain0total-daysum=in.2:--]

...which translates to...

23:00 TEMP 36 (29)
Hi/Lo 44/34
HUM 72%
WIND SSE 11 G27
Day Max 26 G42
RAIN 1Hr 0.00 Day 0.24

Thanks for sharing that!

It is very helpful to see how these various tags are applied in a string and what kind of results that delivers.

Hope to see some more examples of what folks are using. I plan to post all the strings I create here as well.

Cheers. :)
