MBP Failure to reboot - internal storage issue?

Post by Tiktok »

This afternoon I went to look at the Live Data on my MBP in a browser and got a message similar to "The logger cannot return any data just now..." - none of the parameters usually present was displayed.

I tried to reboot the device from the System tab - the display on the MBP then showed Reboot for several minutes but nothing else happened and I was still getting the same message on the Live Data tab regarding the logger and no data. I then removed the power cable and plugged it back after waiting a few minutes. After a short while, the Smartbedded logo appeared and the progress bar filled after which a message saying "Format storage..." appeared for several minutes with a slow flashing of the red led. The next message to appear was "Format FAILED!" and the led changed to fast flashing.

Having waited for 20 minutes between attempts, I have tried the reboot a few times but the result is the same and I cannot now log in or access the device even though it displays an IP address below the Format FAILED message. The MBP was last rebooted around 2 weeks ago so was running a fairly recent system file version.

Does this mean that the internal storage has failed again?

sorry to say, this is indication of failed internal storage. Where did you buy the unit from?

Thanks for the reply - I thought that would be the case with the messages. This MBPro is my second one and is a replacement for one I bought from Prodata Systems back in January which failed in April on internal memory.

I have taken the hit on voiding the warranty and swapped the internal usb stick myself which costs me less than the postage to return a unit and leaves me with only one day hole in the database to fill. System is back up and running fine with database restored from backup.

I can send you one of the industrial 1GB ATP SLC sticks I am using for the current batches.
This is the most reliable you can get. When you exchange yourself, you might
have a look at this video how to disassemble/assemble the MB PRO:

Transcend JetFlash 710 is also rather reliable from the consumer products.

When you want me to do the repair, I will cover your postage.
But you will have a few days of missing data. You can contact me at "info(at)meteobridge.com".

I have the same problem here.
After I unplug the internal USB-stick it works. Can the internal stick be formated externally - which format should it be??

I do not recommend to unplug the internal stick. Why do you plan to do so? If it is defective, please get it replaced by a new one.
The internal stick is automatically formatted on boot (when it is not in the expected format).
