Evapotranspiration missing?

Post by paravis »

Hello everyone!

We just got our Meteobridge Pro yesterday, and quickly got it sorted out. Anyway, everything seems to be working fine except for the evapotranspiration. We have the reading coming in just fine through our console, but the sol0evo data from Meteobridge seems to not exist.

Any thoughts?

We have a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus connected wirelessly to the Meteobridge Pro, and all other systems/sensors are good to go. (Well, at least every other sensor I've added to our database.)

Thanks for any help!

FYI, we are using: [sol0evo-daysum=mm.2:999.99] and the only data we get is 999.99 ... Our console at this time is reporting 0.04mm, so there is most definitely data being provided by the sensors.

Maybe its the same as with the non-pro Meteobridge - Evapotranspiration is not supported when used with the Meteostick. Meteobridge have to be connected to (davis) console to be able to show Evapotranspiration.

Some time ago I sent Boris some documentation about calculating Evapotranspiration but don't know if he can or will use it.

Ouch! That's definitely a huge bummer ... We got our Meteobridge Pro specifically for irrigation management, to provide the data our irrigation controller needs to make "intelligent" decisions. And yes, since we are connecting through Meteostick, we are completely circumventing the Davis console.

So, I take it that the evapotranspiration is actually not sent in from the Davis ISS itself, but that the console calculates it based on whatever data *is* coming in, and then simply displays that information?

If that's the case, I could write it into the MySQL insert query (as long as it is appropriately simple enough for both the query and my little brain) ...

Eh ... I just searched for how to calculate evapotranspiration ...

And it doesn't seem as simple as a Temp*(Humidity/NumberOfCrickets) haha ...

What are our options here? I guess I could plug this console into the Meteobridge, but the whole point in buying the Pro was to have nothing to do with the console, and get data straight into the servers.

Yes, its not simple and I guess thats why its not already implemented, but the Davis Console can do...

Dont know what you should do right now but wait and see if Boris will comment on this. I'm not 100% sure about this.

I gotcha. Thanks for the input ...

Against my initial plans, we did just go ahead and order the Davis WeatherLink USB to hook into the Meteobridge PRO, but now we're spending over $300 more than we had budgeted, to have a less capable setup with far more points of failure. I did not want to have to use the Davis console at all ...

However, we will stick with this option for the time being -- with hopes that the evapotranspiration calculation functionality will be added in a future release. Please please :-)

I mean, to be honest, this little device is absolutely amazing. I am so happy with how well it functions, and the features it has. So I definitely have no complaints!

But, since I'm nowhere near the level that the developers are at ... I'll take what I can get!

Thanks again, droid.

I totally agree with you, and no problem, glad to help :-)

Boris is normally a very productive and innovative guy so maybe this will be supported one time in the future.

Hey and also, anything I can do to help, I would be more than happy to contribute.

Just, I'm not entirely sure what it is that I can do. ;-)

Thanks so much.

Hey there,

I'm guessing admin is Boris, yes? (If not, please correct me.)

If you like, I can provide our ET data direct from Davis console (and all other data), if you want something to work with. I can make whatever data you want -- cron job to your FTP for daily MySQL .sql files if you like.

Let me know, please. I'm not happy to have my Meteobridge PRO plugged into the Davis console via USB. What a waste of beautiful design.

Cheers.
