Davis Instruments 6450 Solar Radiation Sensor for VantagePro2

Post by FishH2o »

Before I purchase a "Davis Instruments 6450 Solar Radiation Sensor for VantagePro2 wireless" I would like to ensure that this sensor can be configured as a 2nd sensor in MBPRO.. I have a vantage vue right now and was disappointed that this IIS didn't have solar Rad. If I'm understanding correctly the MBPRO can receive 8 sensors/IIS like the envoy8 and doesn't matter what they are. If this is so I will purchase one of these sensors today.

How do you want to connect the solar sensor? It only has a 2 ft (0.6 m) cable with a RJ15 connector.
It needs a ISS of some sort (VP/2) to connect to: http://www.davisnet.com/product/solar-radiation-sensor/
Requires
A Vantage Pro2 sensor suite. Note: Vantage Pro2 Plus and GroWeather already include this product.
A Sensor Mounting Shelf (#6673) for mounting to a Vantage Pro2 sensor suite.
That ISS has to transmit the readings to the MB-Pro RED or to a MB with a Meteostick.

Solar sensor would probably need to be connected to the primary ISS, which a VUE does not support. Not sure if a solar sensor can be used as a stand-alone with a separate transmitter, I don't believe so unless it is capable under the 3rd party sunshine station, the other 7 ID's (excluding ISS) don't support solar sensor by itself.

Its Davis Instruments 6450 Solar Radiation Sensor for VantagePro2 "wireless". From what I have read on Davis website the sensor can connect to the envoy8 and then I saw a few post here that the MBPRO red acts the same as a envoy8.

From what I have read here on the forums the MBPRO Red works like this:

The solar and UV sensor do connect physically to the ISS. Thee ISS in turn can connect wireless to either a VantagePro2 console, an Envoy, an Envoy8 or MBPro
