Sharing Envoy8x **solved**
Hello,
I have licensed meteobridge in action.
Do you know how can I share a connection to the Envoy8x between meteobridge and the Davis WDU windows application which connects only through com port (USB) to the Envoy8X.
I want to maintain an archive with the WDU and live data with the meteobridge.
Thanks,
Boaz

Re: Sharing Envoy8x
I don't see a way how to do this.
Re: Sharing Envoy8x
With the WeatherLink software it CAN be done (like described in the site), and with the Envoy8X it can't ?
Re: Sharing Envoy8x
Not sure I understand what you mean? WeatherLink software can not talk direct to an Envoy8x but can import Envoy8X data files that have been pre saved with WDU.boazn wrote: Tue Dec 26, 2017 11:32 am With the WeatherLink software it CAN be done (like described in the site), and with the Envoy8X it can't ?
Re: Sharing Envoy8x
Meteobridge can share connection with WeatherLink with its IP and port 22222.
But what with other software which can connect with com port only?
I know there is a possible solution with virtual com port to TCP/IP . But I have not yet succeed in doing this.

Re: Sharing Envoy8x
Sorry, but you are completely wrong. No Weatherlink software can share an Envoy8x. Try to install Weatherlink on two PCs and connect it to one Envoy or Envoy8x. It will not work. Reason is in the protocol.
Your comment about the virtual comport completely misses the point. The issue is not getting two PCs somehow physically connected, but that there is a two-way communication protocol that is not designed for more than one partner to speak to.
Start reading the Envoy/Vantage serial protocol and give the LOOP / LOOP2 protocol some thinking. Having understood this you should face the fact, that the Envoy8x protocol is even more complex. Forget about it...

Re: Sharing Envoy8x
I wrote Meteobridge can share connection with WeatherLink with its IP and port 22222. It is written in the meteobridge web site.
I need this feature for software which connect via com port only.

Re: Sharing Envoy8x
But the 8X does not use WeatherLink.
Re: Sharing Envoy8x
As I said and Mattk added you are wrong on various aspects. These are the facts:boazn wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2017 3:28 pm I wrote Meteobridge can share connection with WeatherLink with its IP and port 22222. It is written in the meteobridge web site.

1) Davis data logger for Envoy/Vantage cannot feed more than one client. Therefore, it is not possible to have two PCs with Weatherlink software to read data from one Davis logger. You stated the opposite which is wrong.
2) Davis Weatherlink Software cannot read data from Envoy8x. They sell a special piece of software with the Envoy8x. Limitations of 1) do also apply here.
3) Meteobridge can allow a via TCP/IP connected Weatherlink/Cumulus/etc PC software to access the Vantage/Envoy data logger connected to the Meteobridge. In that operation the PC programm drives the protocol and Meteobridge is just relaying the data and sniffs the content to fill up its own data logging. But this is only possible for Vantage/Envoy not for Envoy8x.
4) Beside Meteobridge/Meteohub there is no 3rd party SW that can read Envoy8x data at all.
It is fine that you think you need something else, but these are the facts.
Re: Sharing Envoy8x
Hello,
I meant I have Weatherlink with Vantage Console and they can share connection with MB (same PC). (like you wrote in 3.)
I also have 8X with the WDU software which connect only via com port.
How can I get the same functionality (sharing connection with MB) with the 8X?
There is no way?
thanks
Boaz

Re: Sharing Envoy8x **solved**
No there is no real way as WDU is something very specific to the Envoy8X with WeatherLink even not supported by the Envoy8X. Not everything is possible or practical with the 8X, this is just the way it is and especially for a product that is discontinued.
Re: Sharing Envoy8x **solved**
mattk is right. Sorry, a proxy solution for the 8x is not planned as there is absolutely no demand in magnitude justifying the development effort.
Re: Sharing Envoy8x **solved**
Last Q,
I can see in the "Weather Station" tab possibility to connect to the 8X via IP.
This can be done only with the WeatherlinkIP router configuration?
Thanks.

Re: Sharing Envoy8x **solved**
To fix the IP of the WLIP you would use the WLIP web page
Re: Sharing Envoy8x **solved**
Sorry, didn't understand.
Just asked whether the IP option there can help me (I do NOT have any WeatherLinkIP).
