Meteobridge “locks up” or “freezes” **solved**

Post by 2BZ2Ranch »

I’ve been using meteobridge (ver. 3.2) with a usb hub and a Davis Pro2 wireless for several years. It has recently started to lock up or freeze every 8 to 48 hours. The symptom is there is no fast-blinking of the reset button, the internet light is on, and the wifi light stays on steady (rather than random blinking) but apparently no data is being transmitted (I receive e-mail notifications from the various weather sites that “Your Station is Offline”). Disconnecting the power to reboot usually fixes the issue but I sometimes have to connect it via ethernet and do a “save and reboot.” I don’t change anything, just save and reboot. I can then reconnect to my network via wi-fi. The meteobridge network has a static ip address as well as my router, both set to 192.168.1.12.
Any idea of what is going wrong?
Thanks, Dave
Dave

I would change the IP address of one of these devices. You may have a conflict since two devices are trying to use the same address. You only have to change the last number 192.168.1.12 (12) to 13 or some number not already assigned on your network.

No, the router and the meteobridge are tied to each other exclusively on x.x.1.12. The router is now acting as a DNS server and has reserved x.x.1.12 for the MAC address of the MB (both of my printers are set up the same way). I assigned the MB a static ip because I don’t want it to use a DHCP which would possibly conflict with other clients.
Unless I’m totally wrong, which is a distinct possibility!
Thanks for your reply,
Dave

p.s., I have been running the MB this way for several years. This “locked” condition has only appeared the last couple of weeks.

When you say "The router is now acting as a DNS server ...." does this imply tthis is something that has recently been done/changed, Now? If not has anything else been changed on your network, router etc?

No, my apologies. My router and Meteobridge have been setup this way shortly after I purchased the MB (from Ambian in Phoenix, Arizona, USA). I had a heck of a time initially getting it to work consistently because of my ignorance concerning networking, clients, servers, DNS servers, and all the other “stuff” necessary to understanding said technology. It had been working quite well for several years. I did learn that I needed to “broadcast” my SSID for the MB to “find” it. I initially had the SSID hidden and whenever the MB rebooted (from a power bump or SW update) it would go into a continuous fast-blink mode. That issue was resolved when I started broadcasting my SSID.

Now that you mention “change,” I did purchase a miniature, one-piece, USB 3.0 hub because of its size (supposedly backward compatible). I wanted to eliminate the cumbersome 2.0 hub that I had for a more compact one. THAT is when the “freezing” started 3 or 4 times a day. I changed back to my original hub. Freezing has improved but is still locking up every other day ot two.

Thanks for the help.

I don't run MB's that require a USB hub and maybe someone else can confirm this but I believe the USB needs to be 2.0 specific, 3.0 compatibility I am unsure about. I would be trying to source another USB 2.0 hub if this is possible?

Thanks again for the reply. I’m looking into the hub shown/discussed on the Wiki and some of the other websites.
I just thought it strange that it worked for so long until I used that new hub.

Then again, I might just invest in that TP Link that accepts the Davis data logger without a hub and transfer my license. Maybe too I’ll invest in two years of software support. The Meteobridge is a great system and I want to keep it.
Have a great day; I need to get some sleep.

I believe the problem has been solved.
My USB hub apparently failed. I replaced it and the MB has been online for 10 days without interruption.
I thank the community for the help and great work.
