Support for low-cost station Ventus W835 added

Post by admin »

Ventus W835 is a low cost weather station that delivers wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, pressure, indoor temp/hum, outdoor temp/hum and UV index. As there is no specs on how to read data from it, I started some experiments with my Beagle USB protocol analyzer and found out how to grab data from it. With just released update this station is now also supported by Meteobridge.

Support for additional temp/hum sensors is not yet implemented. When you have additional sensors, please drop a mail to "info(at)smartbedded.com" and give me remote access, so that I can see, where the data for additional sensors shows up in the data stream.

This station is using the same sensor array as the Bresser stations. Also Ambient has has a WS-8478 that also using this sensor array. Same for Froggit with the WH6000.

None of this stuff is Fine Offset (Ecowitt) as you would typically think of when you think Ambient or Froggit. These are instead made by Bresser I believe. They are not compatible with each others sensors. You can't use a GW1000 on this Bresser stuff. They have their own separate way of working. It may look like something that Fine Offset made but it isn't. This is a totally different company despite the resellers selling it.

Companies like Ventus, Ambient, Froggit, Misol... etc...do not make anything. They are just resellers that slap their name on the stuff that other companies make. Bresser and Fine Offset are two separate and distinct manufacturing companies making totally different stuff. What also adds to the confusion is that they tend to name the model numbers in the same fashion as they start with WS or WH which is the same as Fine Offset stations. I think this Bresser stuff is trying to ride the coat tails of Fine Offset. And the resellers also don't want you to know that they don't really make anything.

It seems that the typical resellers that would carry Fine Offset hardware anre now also carrying this Bresser stuff. Frankly my opinion is that it is not as good as Fine Offset stations.
