IS any USB memory okay?

Post by J.S. »

I have got the NSLU2 (second hand 40 euro) in and do not have the memorystick (want to buy a good brand). I do have a SD card of 4 Gb and a USB adapter for it. Can I use this to installthe NSLU2?

Thanks!

An important thing about flash memory to use with Meteohub and NSLU2 is "wear leveling". The USB sticks of major brands are known to do this quite fine (some OCZ sticks allow for definition of separate areas to be used when parts of the flash storage might fail). As I don't think, that SD memory cards are also doing this to that extent, you would have the risk of memory failures after a while.

On the other hand it would be an interesting experiment, but I don't know if you are willing to test this. A broken file system with potential loss of weather data and the hassle to set it up all gain might be something most user would prefer to avoid.

just my $0.02

OCZ...I know this as overclocker memory. Do not know where to buy those sticks. This option is great. I do not know how much time it costs to install it. I am awaiting my RFXCOM (is send to me). I will get an OS 968 JD from Ambientweather via a collegue within 2-3 weeks.

Loss of data is no problem, I use accurate dataloggers (Tinytag Ultra 2) to accurately measure temperature. I also use this to calibrate elctronic thermometers. The OS 968 is used as cheap to get live data ont he net. Oke, so now my search starts for the OCZ memory....Thanks for the advice!

Hallo zusammen,

Carsten

Access of connected hard drives won't be able.
I never tried running Meteohub with a USB harddrive, but I guess it should work.
