Console not responding. **solved**

Post by MapelGrove »

Greetings!

This topic has been raised before, but I'm unable to resolve the issue I'm having with my Vantage Pro2's inability to upload data to Weather Underground via an Ambient WeatherBridge. This had worked just fine for 7 years using Meteobridge until I needed to reset my laptop several weeks ago. I thought that perhaps it was a license issue, so I purchased the 2-year Meteobridge update. I was able to enter the new license key and other pertinent data successfully. WU appears to be seeing my station, but no data is showing and I'm getting a "console is not responding" message in the Logging output (see attachment). Per a suggestion in another post I disconnected the power, batteries, and data logger, then reconnected everything. I even swapped out the power adaptor with a never used spare adaptor without any effect. I'm thinking that perhaps the data logger is the problem, but it seems like too much of a coincidence that it would have failed at the same time I was experiencing laptop issues.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thank you.

Would appear to be some form of comms issue following the reset of the laptop? What did this laptop reset involve? Are the USB drivers up to date or active?

The reset was a complete wipe of the laptop back to the factory settings. If there were any support files associated with using Meteobridge, those would have been removed as well. The USB drives should be up to date as a result of reloading Microsoft Windows. Given that WeatherBridge is the brains between my Vantage Pro2 and Weather Underground with the laptop only serving as a means to access the Meteobridge interface, I'm at a loss to understand how my laptop would factor into a communication issue. Nevertheless, thank you for giving me something else to consider.

Yes that's a dilemma, the laptop fails and the MB appears not to connect to the VP2 via USB? So the VP2 connects USB to the MB and the MB connects Ethernet to your router, laptop connects Ethernet to your router and can subsequently the laptop can login into the MB? Now where is the connection in this?

The MB licence should have not been an issue as the MB would have run for ever using the old FW version. So when you updated the MB Lic did you update the FW? If so have you tried rolling back the old FW version? But hang on you mentioned this only occurred following the laptop reset? There is something else missing in this?

LOL, I had written out long response without hitting 'Save draft' to discover after the fact that it was all for naught. I didn't realize that one can be timed out of here, even if actively writing. So, here's the abbreviated version of what I originally wrote. Today I tried several things beginning with swapping out my original VP2 console with an unused spare console and no other changes to the setup (VP2 to Belkin Travel Hub to WeatherBridge hard wired via ethernet cable to router; the laptop used to access MP is not wired to any of this and is linked to router via WiFi). Using the spare console, I was able to upload data to Weather Underground (WU) and everything appeared normal in MB. This resolved question as to whether data logger was the comms issue but left open the question as to why the original VP2 console wasn't working properly. Next, a call the Davis Weather tech support. They suggested exploring further by downloading WeatherLink (parent software for the data logger) and directly connecting the VP2 via data logger to the laptop. This test resulted in successfully uploading data to WeatherLink with the original console. So why not with MB? Reconnected everything to normal configuration including original console, and lo and behold, the return of weather data on WU!! It would appear that WeatherLink somehow rebooted the original VP2 console back to normal. Everything looks fine including on MB. The underlying technology that caused the original problem and how I was able to resolve it are an absolute mystery, but I'm a happy weather geek once again.
