Difficulty upgrading firmware 2.6.16 -> 2.7 ** solved **

Post by clnilsen »

I am trying to upload the latest firmware update (2.7) posted, but having little luck.

I have tried using the software update (file) method by copying the file from my HD to the transfer folder, whiuch results in an error:

File "/data/transfer/update.upd" successfully transferred.
Error: Update cannot be extracted or installed.

I also tried the web method from my local HD, which resulted in no errors, but still shows version 2.6

Not sure what i am doing wrong. System is Vista, using Internet Explorer.

Thanks!

Hi Chuck

Is the command line you type in with all "t crossed and I's dotted" If you have any old upd files in the transfer folder remove these or save them to a folder on your pc.

Then re-type the command line that you require.

I am not using a "command line" but the web interface under "maintenence" tab. Both of the above options are at the bottom of this tab.

Hi Chuck

When I talk of the command line, this is as you say the very bottom line on the maintenance page.

One thing that I have found is after you have saved the upd file to the transfer folder, I leave this folder open before hitting the "install" button.

Also I am sure you have tried downloading the update file again, just in case it has become corrupted.

I had a similar issue this weekend when updating from any version. You basically have two options - from the web - which I never could understand how to get that to work...but the other option was the easiest from a file - the bottom most option on the maintenance page. But - you can't upgrade it when the file sits on your hard drive or PC - you have to move the file to the actual directory on the USB Stick on the meteohub. In file explorer - actually browse to your network connections and you should see Meteohub as an option, you'll have to log into the meteohub, then upload the file I believe to the upload directory (I'm not at home). When you go to update - it doesn't look at your hard drive - instead it looks at the usb stick drive for the update... So then in the path - you only put the usb directory upload/upd2.7.upd....It works great when you put the files on your actual USB stick!

Hope this helps!

Hi

You have spread it out a little more than me, but that's what I was explaining. Hope all goes well Chuck.

OK, I've checked everything and verified the file download. The name of the file i have is "update-v2.7.upd" I even tried downloading it right to the /data/upload directory. It seems to transfer ok, which indicates to me it's not a directory issue, but this error "Error: Update cannot be extracted or installed." seems to indicicate a bad file?

thanks!

So then you should use the bottom most box and input the following:

data/upload/update-v2.7.upd

if that doesn't work - then move it to the transfer directory - that is what I used now that I see it at home....

data/transfer/update-v2.7.upd

Make sure your browser isn't automatically extracting the update file. I had issues with that. If I remember correctly, all updates should be pushed to the NSLU2 still GZIPPED. So, the file you are uploading to the NSLU2 would be update-v2.7.upd.gz.

Check your browser's settings if you're still having issues. Safari and Firefox here were causing me some grief until I figured out what was going on.

Did they change the file formats?

The file that I downloaded here is not zipped and it worked for me in that way - it is only update-v2.7.upd with no gz...

Now this sounds like it could be the root of the problem. I can confirm my file has no .gz extension, and that seems to jive w/ the error messige I receive "Error: Update cannot be extracted or installed"

That's just what i have - and the update went fine here (I use the Web style install, from a file downloaded to a network drive).

(and FWIW, all my earlier update files just end in .upd too)

Hi

Ok lads, where is this mystery file extension coming from, I have never seen (.gz) before. They have always been .upd files and I joined back last year.

So the rule seems to, do not,not apply anything other than the .upd extensions, until we here from Boris, not that there will be any updates before he comes back from holiday.

I don't know why you talk about a 2.6.16 version, when version 2.6.16 , AFAIK, has never been issued!
If I'm not wrong versions are always [v_number][.][s_number][letter] where s_number is one digit.

So, may be you are mixing meteohub updates with other stuff?

Or am I wrong?
