Howto Restore DB when database restore fails due to not enough space

Post by robr57 »

Due to HW error of my Meteobridge PRO (which has been repaired as service) I temporarily ran Meteobridge on a VM instance.
The DB on VM was based on the backup of the PRO with a size of 424 Mb. On my VM it grew in 2 weeks to 436 Mb.

So when I received the repaired PRO I decided to restore a backup from the VM DB to my PRO to have my 2 weeks of data as well.
This failed due to unsufficient space although the free space was sufficient. I used the option to Delete database before restore but this failed.

On the PRO System tab is showed :
Storage ATP: Internal 864 MB total, 424 MB free (51% used, 357 days) with the 3 weeks old DB being 424 Mb.

On the PRO Database Administration page :
Database Size: 423 MB (488 MB free space available on media). So if it is deleted before restore, the 436 MB should fit easily.

It seems that Delete database does not release the space on the internal USB. The 488 MB free space seems to be wrong as well. Boris has no explanation for this yet.

HOW DID I FIX IT ?

1. On the Database Adminstration page : Choose Database Care : Delete Database (accept the warning)
2. On the System Administration page : Choose Reboot => a new empty DB is created
3. After boot, on Database Adminstration page the Database Size now shows 0 MB (761 MB free space available on media)
4. Mark option Delete database before restore and Select the file to restore (accept the warning)
5. This results in restoring the database from the VM and is now running smoothly with all data.

Remark: The PRO does not automatically Unzip the GZIP backup from the VM, this must be done manually first !

Also thanks to Boris who also supported me in this adventure.
