vmware running on netbook (like asus eee pc?)

I would like to run meteohub on a little netbook. Is there already someone running vmware on this hardware??

Are you planning to use it as dedicated meteohub? If so I assume a native installation under linux might be better suited.
I am considering the same thing, but have to get my hand on a netbooks first.

I understand taking an old computer that isn't used any more but what's the reason for buying a netbook to run Meteohub? I see only one advantage compared to a supported dedicated platform, that's the battery backup if deployed where power supply is very unreliable. I'm having power outages on average once a month but for me that don't outweigh the disadvantages.

Netbooks are:
* More expensive (at least double?)
* Not designed for 24/7-use
* Noisier
* More likely to break (debateable of course but at least they contain more components)
* Needs more power
* Less "Green"

I'm not trying to start a fight or ruin anyones day here. Just curious about what advantages you see for the netbook.

The price of a netbook comes near the price of a E-box or FitPC. And you have included a keyboard and screen.

I've had an eeePc since they first came out (I'm writing this on it).
I almost went so far as to install Meteohub on it, but in the end decided that it is far more useful to me as a netbook, so I went for the ALIX 1D.

I am very happy with my choice[1].

I don't think that the screen and keyboard are very relevant. When doing the initial set up I used a spare keyboard and monitor, but now it is set up it is running happily without either. If I want to adjust anything I just use the web interface or SSH as I did with the NSLU2.

[1] Though if you have a poor power supply I might suggest getting an alternative PSU (as discussed here).
I finally got around to ordering the alternative I mention there yesterday. It arrived today and is now in use, but I haven't yet tried the "pull the plug" test!

As mentioned earlier I am looking toward this route as well. They are getting cheaper by the day :)

It looks as if you have to tinker with it a little if you want to get Debian on it but support for the ASUS Ee PC seems to be underway (according to: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC).

I am not in a hurry and will keep my eyes on it. Keep us posted if you decide to take the plunge.

That's the point at which I decided to reconsider using my eee-Pc as a Meteohub. Things may of course have progressed since I had a tentative go several months ago, e.g. the work mentioned in your link.

PS. Installation on the ALIX 1D was very straight forward. :)
