Newbie needs help! Unable to get Meteohub to work.

Post by MJC55 »

This is my first time using Meteohub, not sure where I went wrong. I am unable to access the Meteohub web interface. My router doesn't even appear to recognize the unit. I can't find an ip for it and I've tried the 192.168.1.77 address without any luck. I've tried using two different networks and routers still the same results. I'm using an ALIX 3D2, a Transcend 4GB CF Card (industrial type) and the latest version of Meteohub 4.1. I did as the instructions said and copied the "image.bin" file to the CF card using DiskImage. That seem to go just fine. I installed the CF card into the 3D2 and put everything together. Life seemed good. I connected the 3D2 to my router and applied power. Everything appeared to power up ok. The 2 LEDs at the LAN came on along with the LED on the router. The 3 LEDs on the 3D2 came on for a second or two then the 1 LED near the power connector stayed on and the other 2 went out. Some questions I have that weren't quite clear to me in the manual. Does the USB Flash drive that I used to extract the image.bin file need to be in the 3D2 when booting for the first time? I did try it, no luck. Does the weather station need to be connected to the 3D2 prior to booting up? Is it possible I have a DOA 3D2 board? I've also tried rebooting my router many times and disabled the firewall. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome MJC55...:cheer:

Hopefully we can get you up and running. I did have the 3d2 in the US - but had several problems with it and ended up sending it back - hopefully you don't have the same ones I did - my problems were all about ip access and rebooting....

When it boots up - the lights/LEDs will blink the ip address - you can get that sequence in the manual and see if you can see what the ip address is being assigned by meteohub. You do not need the USB and you do not need the weather station to get to the setup screens.... Another thing to try is to download IP Scan to scan for the ip address - just google it to find it....it does take about 3 mintues to get through the boot process...

When rebooting it - turn it off for about 5-10 mintues - then turn it on and let it sit for 3-5 mintues before trying to access the ip....also - try not touching the case - something I wondered about is static problems with the alix.... you will see some of my other posts under the ebox/alix headings.... Also sometime I was able to get it up and running with a very quick power disconnect and reconnect....but most of the time if I let it sit - then turned it on - it worked.....once again thinking there may be a static electricity issue....

Report back on if you can see the ip blinking or if you have success getting in....

Also make sure your router is in the 192.168.1 arena as I had another router recently that was in the 192.169.2 arena.....

Thanks for the info Gregg.

Still not having any luck. I tried your suggestions but nothing worked. I tried using IPScan but it doesn't see it. I wasn't able to use the lights either. As I said in the earlier post the three of them come on when first booting up then the two furthest from the power connection go off and stay off. According to the ALIX 3D2 manual that is how the light sequence goes during boot. The 3D2 appears to be doing what it suppose to during boot. I'm wondring if I did something wrong creating the "image.bin" file. What program should I use to extract "image.bin" from the "meteohub-x86-4GB.gz" archive? I believe I used "BitZipper" to extract "image.bin." Should I try and redo the CF card? Thanks again for the help.

That's a good idea starting over with the CF Card because the flashing of the IP address on the LED's is a meteohub boot up programming thing - not an Alix bio or boot up option - so if the lights aren't blinking a bunch - then it's not booting into meteohub anyway... I used
Winzip to unzip....a couple very important things on the writing the image - make sure you use the "Physical Disk" selection in Diskimage and not the "Drive" when selecting the drive to write too - that is a big one and I couldn't get it to work on a vista machine - had to do it on an xp machine....but physical disk is very important!

Look on page 113 of the manual V4.1 title IP Listening and that gives you the code for the LED's.

I'm up and running!

Thanks for the last post. What we have here is a failure to pay attention to detail. I must have selected "drive" instead of choosing "physical drive" when I copied "image.bin" to the CF card. I reconfigured the card the right way and it booted right up with the router giving it an ip address. Its late so I think I'll finish configuring everything tomorrow. Thanks again for all your help Gregg.
