PCR800 Rain Sensor - Spider Problem

I had a problem where my PCR800 Rain Guage was showing zero rainfall after several hours of heavy rain. On investigation I found that a spider had taken up residence inside the housing and had spun a load of webs that was preventing the rocking arm from moving. Has anyone else suffered this problem and found a way to keep insects out of the housing?
