Mini X - a new member in the family

Post by admin »

Mini X port seems to be ready for release now. There will for sure be some errors in it,
but functionality I did test, worked fine so far.

I just ordered a Minix off of eBay. I ordered the MiniX that has 1gb of ram as opposed to the 512mb. I would not expect any issues, but... Thought I would ask? It is a model number HDV-G200.

Thanks!

I didn't try myself, but I am very sure that the 1 GB models will fine as well.
Please post your experience here, when you have done the installation.

Ok, I will. As a note, I ordered the 1gb unit because it was actually *cheaper* than the 512k unit. Odd, I know! My cost, ordered through EBay from seller " eforu_uk" 69.59 Euros, , about $80 USD.

I bought the pretty little something from a german retailer (includes a AC adapter with Euro pin type !!!):

According to the instructions from Boris the setup is easy (headless variant)

But there is a Problem with the DHCP configuration over the WLAN. Some network parameters are wrong:

It seems the Meteohub on the Mini X got a Class B Netmask but there is a Class C Netmask configured on the Router. Just as the DNS Server IP and the Gateway IP are configured with the same address and not with the address shown in Network Configuration for DNS1. Other devices in my WLAN got the right parameters

There ist one more "little" Problem:

I don't believe this bogos are right.

Thanks for pointing out the mask and dns issue. I will fix that shortly.
In the meantime, please switch to non-dhcp and set data manually,
press save and reboot.

bogomips should not bother you. A10 SOC is dynamically clocked. So when idle,
performance goes down, when busy it will go up to the 1000 bogomips you do expect.
This is done to keep power consumption as low as possible.

With the v2 Image installed the Mini X can't connect to the WLAN (SSID=meteohub). So I did the setup in headed variant.
After setting the SSID and pass phrase per keyboard the Mini X connected without problems. The DHCP works well all parameters got the expected values.

In the next Step I want to connect the Weatherstation, a Davis Envoy with a serial datalogger over a Prolific USB to serial adapter.
The System found the USB device /dev/ttyUSB0, but in the meteohub.log I only found the message "Demo license timed out".

Thanks for giving it a try. I will fix the "headless variant" this evening.
The MiniX is still a very new platform, so bugs will be in.

Please keep posting the ones you find. I will try to fix it very fast,
in order to make this platform one of the main trunks of Meteohub.

I am still amazed when I look at these tiny packages and realize what they are capable of. :D

Corrected image (v3) has just been uploaded. Headless installation should work again.

I am working to get the image running not just with "Mini X" but also with the other A10 clones,
especially wide spread MK802, Mini X Plus "candy bar", etc to give you a wider choice of hw options.
I had not expected that these have different uboot environments that do bootstrap differently.
So we will see some more image iterations, before things will settle a bit more.

As said, bug reports are highly welcome to get this Meteohub distro ironed as fast as possible.

I installed the v3 Image on the Mini X.
Headless setup works as designed and the DHCP configuration is OK.

But I can't connect the weatherstation (Davis Envoy with serial datalogger over Prolific USB to serial adapter).
Every try to start the data logger process ends with the following entry in the meteohub.log:

"logger (13.11.2012 15:20:48): Demo license timed out. Please contact "info@meteohub.de" to get a valid license."

Although in the System Information appears "Limited Demo Version, 48 days left"

Thanks for giving me the chance to log in. This could happen,
when date is still on Mini X system default (1.1.2010) during
initial setups. I did made an update to the code, so that this
should not occur again. Will also be part of the next image and
sw update.

Just received my MiniX "Plus" -- the 1GB version. Took 15 days to arrive from China. Have downloaded the image and un-RAR'ed it. Have the micro-SD card ready to go, but could not find my micro-SD reader/writer USB gadget last night. Picking one of those up after work today. Hopefully by tonight I'll have it up and running! Next step, after getting it all reading VP2+ console data, is to get it uploading to WU.

Well, so far, so good. The minix boots, I can browse it, and working on configuration. I added the Davis Vantage Pro 2 station, using a Davis Weatherlink USB interface. Selected /dev/ttyUSB0 . Says there are no sensors... Expected that. Go to sensors page and I get an error :

error connect socket 127.0.0.1:5555 :Connection refused
Warning: Data logging has been halted.

I am stuck.....

I am going to keep fooling with it but.....

I will browse to the help.cgi page referenced in your earlier post......
