After upgrade and changing some variables I got following errors:

File system drops into read-only mode when it reaches a certain degree of disruption. Booting again might temporarily make the problem disappear, but your storage madia is for sure seriously damaged. Looks very much like a NSLU2 with a worn out USB stick. You should immediately change that.
These kind of problems have noting to do with the update itself. But the update changes quite some data onto the storage media so that errors being already there but not being discovered become obvious.
