Pi 2, wifi and MeteoHub

Post by TomS »

I am looking to buy a Pi 2 to run Meteohub. Can anyone tell me:

-what brand of wifi adapter (usb) you have had success with, with respect to the MeteoHub image (5.0f) that is downloadable
-how I would connect the Pi to my wifi network with the MeteoHub image loaded? I can start wired, but ultimately I need to be wireless.

In terms of wifi adapters, I have seen pi kits that come with "Ralink RT5370 chipset", " Realtek 8188CU Same Chip used by the Edimax EW-7811Un", or I can buy something explicitly that I know will work.

Thanks much for any info on both the questions.

Tom,
Edimax EW7811Un works absolutely flawless in my meteohub (5.0i) / Pi2
Of course you have to setup MH first on wired connection, only after all things running well you will switch over to WLAN.

That's perfect - thanks for the info. I did notice after I posted that the web interface for MeteoHub had a place to set up the wifi. I can do wired to start.

Thanks again,

Peter,

You mention you are running 5.0i on your Pi2 - I thought 5.0f was the right one to run on Pi2?

You start with installation of image 5.0f, then you update to 5.0i inside MH using the built-in update function...

I am also running 5.0i on a RPi 2, but my network page does not show the WLAN part. Is that something that appears when you install the usb WLAN adapter?

Thanks for the info on the Edimax adapter.

Yes, this page only appears after installation of an wlan adapter and successful recognition by Linux.
Safest method is power down MH, install adapter, power up.
If no adapters appears on setup page then it is an adapter which is not known to Linux, and you need very probably some special drivers...

Just reporting success (12 hours in) with my raspberry pi 2.

I ended up buying this kit from amazon: http://amzn.com/B00MV6TAJI, which I think was easier than gathering up the pieces (and Amazon Prime shipping helps too). Its only extra piece for me is an hdmi cable I won't use. The wifi dongle included in this kit, based on the same chipset as the Edimax EW7811Un, works fine in meteohub.

Hi,

I bought the Edimax EW7811Un wireless adapter and I cinfigured Meteohub to reach my wifi network.

All look good and the blue LED is flashing, incating the wireless activity.

But when I remove the cable between the Pi 2 and my router. I can't connect to MH with the WLAN IP. When I repalce the cable I can...

Very probably a silly question, but did you try a reboot without cable ?

One comment to the problem of WIFI disappearing without cable in, could possibly be a problem with the router and DHCP settings (i.e. how Your router is setup to distribute IP adresses to devices in Your network, i.e. that something happens to the DHCP given to the wifi adaptor if the cable (ETH0) is not active)

Myself using/testing both Raspberry 2 (and Rasberry Model B+), with USB WIFI with Chipset: Ralink 5370
works just out of the box with Meteohub (also first connect with cable - in web view Meteohub (from other computer) add correct Wireless network and its security key, then save, then reboot and works fine also without the cable))

For users in Scandinavia, one possible place to order that WiFI device with external antenna (better reach) in Sweden is M Punkt nu (SEK 149)

As I needed WMR300 to work I updated to the 5.0i version of Meteohub -and Yes it works :-)

Hello all,

New user here, I just received my Pi 2 and on version 5.0i build 124 DEMO with the Edimax dongle. Problem I have is that as soon as disconnect the LAN cable I loose the wireless.
I have shut down the Pi and booted it back up and still no connection, if I look at the CLI in ipconfig I do see the card active and has a valid address but pings come back at a loss.

Question does the demo version limit wireless use?

Thanks all

Demo version is not limited in that aspect.

So does anyone have a clue on why wifi would drop out when I pull the ethernet cable?

Thanks all
