Lastexport.txt file **solved**

Post by chrysnic »

Hi all,

I have noticed the following peculiar behavior on my MB Pro. I have a "Data Export" service set up, which exports the previous day's weather data at 00:15 every day (at minute resolution), using the "standard-iso" template.

So, today (for instance), the file "standard-iso-20160617-min.txt" was created at 00:15, but the file generated on the previous day (i.e., "standard-iso-20160616-min.txt") was DELETED by the MB Pro and replaced by a file with the name "lastexport.txt", which contains identical info to today's file. In other words, both files "standard-iso-20160617-min.txt" and "lastexport.txt" contain identical data (referring to yesterday's date), while the file for 16 June has vanished.

I have noticed this phenomenon before, whereby the file "lastexport.txt" appears in the export directory and overwrites other files.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

So you are aware then about the file "lastexport.txt" and its purpose?

I am sorry, but, no, I am not aware of this file and its purpose. Has this been discussed in another thread?

Thanks for the pointer Mattk.

Once I installed the 18 June update, the file "lastexport.txt" no longer shows up in the "export" directory, and all other files are OK (with no missing dates). So, everything seems OK now.

Thanks.

Actually,

I have been observing the "export" folder for several days now, and some weird behavior exists:

If you look at the first attached image (attached file: lastexport_1.jpg), notice how the file for the 21st of June is missing, and it has been replaced by lastexport.txt with the previous day's timestamp.

Then, the following day (see attached file lastexport_2.jpg), the file for the 21st of June re-appears, but this time the file for the 22nd has been replaced with lastexport.txt.

Finally, the pattern continues on the following day (see attached file lastexport_3.jpg). Note the "Date Modified" time stamps in all three attached images.

I apologise for the quality of the images, but I think one can still see the relevant information in each image.

Is this some kind of bug?

Thanks.

Yes can see that now. Will try and replicate. Appears to be Yesterday @ 1minute run at 00:15 each day?

Yes, yesterday @ 1minute run, at 00:15 each day.

The funny thing is that it behaves like this for a few days, and then it fixes itself for the next 2-3 days (i.e., there is no visible "lastexport.txt" file, and there is no gap between the dates), and then this issue comes back, etc.

It is strange, because I keep getting the same behavior on my computer. I wonder if this has something to do with Mac OS X and the way the OS connects to an SMB share? I know this does not make sense, but I cannot think of any other reason why I get this weird behavior.

Results after 1 week, all good, all as expected and did not notice anything strange from day to day. Will keep the service going a little longer and will be back if there is anything strange.
