Meteobridge Nano SD Unit Temperature

Post by Grumpy Patzer »

Hello everyone

Two quick questions about the NanoSD. By accident, I touched the Nano when the cover was off. I was surprised by how warm it felt. Not too hot to touch, but much warmer would have been uncomfortable to hold for long. I think it may actually have been the LED that was quite hot, not the chip.

1. Is it normal for it to be this warm, or should I be concerned?
2. If it is indeed the LED that is generating the heat, is there any way to switch it off?

Thanks ....

Good morning

it does run hot it is basically running continuously processing your data and the more options you use the more processing think of it like a cpu in a computer running a heavy load 24/7.
however cheap dirty trick to keep it cooler and allow some better airflow , I bought a spare battery cover DAVIS VANTAGE PRO2 BATTERY COVER (7342.702) a couple of years ago from the USA but you can find them at https://weatherspares.co.uk/collections ... oducts/404

I bought it simply to drill a small set of holes to allow some airflow when the battery cover is in place its just a cheap dirty trick and reduces also console temperature for indoor to a realistic figure .as I said just a crude dirty trick that does the job.

Thanks.

In fact, I was already leaving the battery compartment off (which is how I came to accidentally touch the Nano when I moved the console).

I realise that the CPU can be working quite hard, although my impression is that it is actually the LED, not the CPU that is particularly hot (and the CPU load %age seems pretty low, with only one set of W34 remote updates and no W34 being run locally).

Hence my question: is there any way to configure the Nano so that the LED is not constantly on?

idea was to allow you to have the battery cover in place so you don’t accidentally touch it or the area and enabling some cooling airflow. the led is there for a diagnostic purpose also aid you if you have any issues.to date im not aware of any disabling method. LEDS always run hot but ive not seen that it has impacted anything within the console or nano itself since 2018.
