Customised rain gauges?

Post by skyewright »

Hi,

In software like WD it is possible to set offsets for various incoming values to allow a degree of calibration, e.g. if an anemometer is known to read 10% low.

Another use for this feature is to accommodate rain gauges that have been 'customised' to improve sensitivity by increasing the capture area (e.g. add a funnel to double the area, then apply a 0.5 multiplier to values arriving from the gauge before they are stored).

Does Meteohub provide a way of handling that sort of thing?

PS. I just ordered a slug, so I will be wanting Meteohub in due course now. :)

Found it in the manual now! I had looked before, but I was searching on the wrong terms. 'factor' was the magic word that got me there. :)

Ah, but what if I had a RFXCOM and more than one rain gauge - one of which had been modified?

Hi, at the moment the factor gets applied to all rain sensors.

I sort of guessed that.
It would be great if you could bear in mind the possibility of setting the factor at sensor level as an alternative.

I am awaiting delivery of a Slug and and an RFXCOM receiver (so I'll be wanting Meteohub too, soon :) ). In the near future I hope to have 2 rain gauges set up with that. I'd like to be able to convert one of those gauges to greater sensitivity, but keep the other as standard (as a cross reference, especially if there is a downpour that is so heavy it swamps the modified gauge).

Might that become possible?

PS. And maybe nice to allow other sensor level factors, e.g. for barometer or windspeed adjustments.
