While experienced openwrt users might be able to handle this, doing wifi setup there will in 95% of situation make things worse. Meteobridge can be fully managed on its LAN and WLAN settings from the easy to use Meteobridge network tab.

Please note that I will not give any support on issues coming up after having clicked around on openwrt screens. You are then on your own...
I'm very comfortable with the OpenWRT and DD-WRT environments so forget that there are many who would not be and could well cause self-inflicted headaches.

That said, it appears there may be a problem getting WIFI to work on a RPI 4B with the Meteobridge UI alone. I tried several things prior to posting and after fixing it via OpenWRT, have continued to experiment with a different card, again to no avail. Accessing OpenWRT may be the short term solution for a small group of us, but with your caveat of no further support.

Sorry, my post was not about what you might feel comfortable with. Most users here are not. As said before, I strongly recommend not to try out settings in openwrt.

WLAN works fine with the Meteobridge on RPI 4B. I have one here, so I know for sure. If your WiFi setup does not work, can you please share a bit more details to "info(at)meteobridge.com"?

I also have a RPI 4B and set it up recently. I did not have the issue described with no WiFi networks detected but did have an issue with it subsequently connecting to WiFi after set-up. A couple of reboots were needed. I have also had connection issues where the web interface times out and can't be reached easily. Once you do connect a reboot usually fixes this. Not sure why. I am using a fixed IP address for the system.

Re further details. Before sending an email, for the possible benefit of others, could this have something to do with the issue.

My LAN is range 192.168.10.xxx/24. I went nuts trying to do the initial setup and posted a note to that effect over in the RPI 3, 4 works thread. After a couple notes over there, and going through the WIKI I noticed that on initial setup, Meteobridge appears to be looking for an IP in the 192.168.0.xxx/24 range.

I connected my computer and RPI to a router that I set to 192.168.0.1/24. The RPI then booted fully. The RPI / Meteobridge grabbed an IP that I could then access. Proceeded with entering my station, etc. Then set up a static IP of 192.168.10.xxx in Meteobridge. Rebooted and connected to my Ethernet LAN, accessed the UI, tried to set up WIFI. I also tried to go ahead and setup the WIFI before rebooting with the Meteobridge in the 192.168.10.xxx/24. On reboot it wasn't set. I didn't try rebooting more than twice.

So - could the issue be that Meteobridge and/or OpenWRT are looking for the 192.168.0.xxx/24 range?

I haven't tried this yet - do a from scratch setup, but keep everything on the 192.168.0.xxx/24 range. Up to and through WIFI setup.

I have been trying to get my Rpi 4 to use 5gig wifi for the past week or so but it just doesn't work. Have been numerous updates lately but no 5 gig wifi. I have been trying every way to use OpenWRT but I just can't access it with any method I have tried. Before getting deeper... is 5 gig wifi disabled for a reason?

True, seems I can't get 5 GHz band to work either. Under OpenWRT it seems like 5 GHz band is enabled but I don't want to mess around too much with it to really figure it out. It is strongly recommended by Smartbedded to not mess with settings under OpenWRT. Any issues should be addressed by concerns and then if warranted then firmware updates will enable functionalities so that all user controls are managed via the Meteobridge menus.

But I say this to anyone wanting to use 5 GHz band.....why? It doesn't make much sense to want to use the 5 GHz band....I'll explain.
- The 2.4 GHz band has more range and goes further than 5 GHz
- It is a misconception to think that 5 GHz is faster....as that is only true when you are near the wireless access point. Speed greatly decreases quickly for the 5 GHz band as you move away from the source, leaving 2.4 GHz to actually be faster in many cases.
- The Meteobridge data usage is minimal and 2.4 GHz more than adequately serves the device
- Why put more devices on your 5 GHz band? I think it is best to limit devices on the 5 GHz band to the important devices that can really benefit from the greater speed. The more devices you put on a band the less bandwidth to go around for all devices. Therefore put most IoT devices on 2.4 GHz and leave the 5 GHz for your laptop and you mobile device and maybe a home theater device like Android TV, Roku, Fire device, or gaming system...etc.

*** And I think I know what the real problem is with the 5 GHz. I see do see 5 GHz options in the dropdown....but they aren't mine....they are my neighbors. I don't know why mine don't show up by my neighbors 5GHz does show up. I wonder if the list is just cut off...meaning that maybe the dropdown is hard cut off rather than allowing everything seen to be listed. Either way...again...5 GHz....not the best option for the Meteobridge.

Well my Rpi will be located 5 feet from the router with the GW1000 plugged into the Rpi for power. I am using a UPS for router, modem and GW1000 of course. Yes my 5g is much faster by a factor of 3 compared to 2.4 band. it is also less populated than the 2.4g side. MyTL-904 or whatever it was, was like that and never once did it lock up.
