Hi,
After several years of fault free operation our ethernet connected mr3020 (v1) has failed to load following a power fail. It's stuck in fast flash mode.
I'm really confused because everything appears good. From our lan devices we can access the internet fine.
I can access the meteobridge device landing page across the ethernet lan and all the network vital signs look good. It has a local lan dhcp ip address, and the correct addresses for the dns and gateway. There are plenty of packets coming and going. What's more I can access openwrt from the landing page and using the network tools ping and tracert to the meteobridge.com servers proving that the internet is accessible from the hardware. Yet it stubbornly won't load the main image.
The only two potential issues I've picked up so far:
1. The flashed image is V1.4 and I see V1.5 is now latest.
2. My update support period expired two weeks ago. This is probably the first boot since then. (we will renew support as soon as able).
Could either of these issues be preventing the MB image download?
Is there any way to trace or log the MB image load process? I see in the "Boot sequence" page it talks about holding the button in until the first flash will cause logging to be written to an available FAT Usb drive. Will this log cover the MB image download process? And secondly, when exactly do you push the button for the one flash hold? At first boot?, once it gets to the fast flash stage? It's very tricky to time the button press during fast flash to only one flash.
Any ideas or thoughts to diagnose or remedy appreciated.
Steve

mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image

Re: mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image
Download works fine for my systems. What is the MAC of your MR3020?
DNS resolution looks fine to me.

Re: mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image
I checked server logs and I see these requests from your Meteobridge.
Application stack is delivered on request but your client keeps asking for a new one. Did you try to power cycle again?

Re: mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image
You might login as "root" via ssh and check by inspecting /var/log/start.log what is going on. Is the Meteobridge rebooting or just cycling?
When the internal flash of the MR3020 is gone bad, it might not be able to store parts of the pack locally and might cause this looping. But as long as I can't see what is going on at your MR3020 it is a bit guesswork. Do you have a chance to give me remote access?

Thanks for reply.
Device is remote from me and behind corporate firewall. Remote access difficult.
I will investigate start.log.
Probably 24 hrs before I can do that.

Re: mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image
more info...
/var/log does not contain a start.log.
There are 3 files of ZERO length - lastlog, meteobridge.log, and wtmp.
And a single file of 27 bytes - bootstatus - which contains the text "start meteobridge download".
I notice that in /var there is an image.log file which ends with a message "HTTPS support not complied in." May be this is of help.
The create date on image.log is consistent with the Date() on the device. i.e. indicating recently created.
See attached.

Hi,
It has suddenly started working - on Monday at 0330Z (utc).
We didn't touch a thing. Have you changed anything?

No. Funny.
Re: mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image
Hi,
Did the info I provided above hint at any reason?
We need reliability and I can’t have this happen again. I need to bottom out the underlying cause.
I’m going to replace the hardware. Order placed. I’ll also update the support today now I can attach.
I’m assuming we can transfer the licence to new hardware?
Is there a way to save the image to USB and reload locally or is net loading the only option?
Thanks for help.

Steve

Re: mr3020 failing to load meteobridge image
Hi,
more...
When I applied the support extension key it didn't respond correctly.
Then it rebooted. Now I'm back to the unable to load condition.
The hardware must be faulty.
Waiting on replacement...
