Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB **solved**
Hi,
1. I got my MB Pro Red on Friday and have spent the last two days trying to get it to connect to my Davis VP+2 Wireless. I've run it from the LAN adapter (not the WLAN)! MB version is 5.2 Oct 10 2021. I have tested with the built in antenna and an external but seems not to be the problem? Or should there be an internal problem in the "red"?
As I can see it there are now only two basic choises, "Vantage" or "Meteostick Vantage", and neither seems to get in contact with ISS.
In the /wiki/index.php/Select_Station/en it shows quite a differnt meny but with a choice of "direct RF readout of Davis sensors". I'm living in Sweden and RF is set to EU and the WS is also EU compatible.
The log provides with error message either Vantage or Meteostick Vantage and "can't open device /dev/ttyMH:No such file or directory
My Davis console has Davis LAN hub to a PC with Windows and WD, but I want MB to take the signals and data direct from the wireless weather station. The idea is to have 2 systems after the weatherstation to get redundancy.
2. I formatted a 16GB DataTraveler 111 (I want to log minute data) with FAT32 and put on the back of the red, stating so in the menu. But after reboot there was a message of MB not being capable of formatting it! The MB documents says FAT32, but possibly it should be exFat? Or is it a problem with the DataTraveler being USB 3.0?
Regards Bagtjesen

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
From my memory when i used a PRO and after rereading the meteobridge.com site:
Succes,
Wim
If that is not checked an "normal station" connection using USB or WLAN is assumed by the Meteobridge.Meteobridge PRO and NANO offer a "use internal console connection" or "use internal RF receiver" checkbox.
This checkbox should be enabled unless you don't want to make use of these signature features of the NANO or PRO.
Succes,
Wim

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Ok lets start with the distance between the MBPro and the VP2 ISS? (Probably not a factor at this point?)
On which TAB do you see the choice of "Vantage" or Meteostick Vantage"? Would you have a screen shot?
Yes based on the previous query the Model: selection should be "direct RF readout of Davis sensors?
Do you have the "Use internal RF receiver" option ticked on the Station TAB?
#2 needs to wait until you have the system configured and operating properly

Wim, that config look like a Nano setup?wvdkuil wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:01 am From my memory when i used a PRO and after rereading the meteobridge.com site:If that is not checked an "normal station" connection using USB or WLAN is assumed by the Meteobridge.Meteobridge PRO and NANO offer a "use internal console connection" or "use internal RF receiver" checkbox.

Yes as I have no MB-Pro (now use Rapsberry and small routers) , I copied the first image fromMattk wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:13 amWim, that config look like a Nano setup?wvdkuil wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:01 am From my memory when i used a PRO and after rereading the meteobridge.com site:If that is not checked an "normal station" connection using USB or WLAN is assumed by the Meteobridge.Meteobridge PRO and NANO offer a "use internal console connection" or "use internal RF receiver" checkbox.

The quoted text is just below that image.
Other image attached from the MB website just below "Meteostick and Red Cap Meteobridge PRO"
The image of a PRO should look similar as a PRO-red has an internal meteostick.

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Screen shot of a MBPro connecting via RF directly to a Davis ISS

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Now we have a match

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Thanks for all suggestions,
However the options suggested are not available to me as can be seen by the screenshots below.
Here the System/Information shows my "RED" as a PRO *
Since "Vantage" only gives options for taking data from Davis console via the usb serial or lan dongle this lacks any device settings
The Meteostic Vantage looks better but only offers "Connection: USB Serial" and no possibility to set any device - the dropdown list is empty...
Now here are all possible choises for "Weather Station (primary)". You can see that the lists overlap, so it is complete.
Only Vantage, Meteostick Vantage are applicable - I don't want to go by Davis WLL. No option for direct ! ! ! ! Does using LAN instead of WLAN WiFi on a PRO RED see as a BLACK?
The system did not let me add more than 5 files although they are small. The third picture in the list of station choises is sent in a separate message.

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Then you have a malfunctioning device.
Is the colour of the casing red?
Are there TWO antenna's?
Both RED colour and 2 antenna's are needed for a PRO-RED.
Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Thanks wvdkuil,
Yes the case endings are red and there are two antennas!
I did just take it apart during lunch to see if the connectors are all there (there is an instruction video on that so it is easy) - and they are...only difference from the video (from 2018?) - there was no white shielding inside the roof here. but yellow transparent foile on top of the upper board.
I had problems with WLAN already from the start, that why I used LAN. It got an address from my routers DHCP, however it lost lot of pings and then was unreachable. And also my whole network slowed down to almost nothing, so something is wrong with it I think!
Can I contact the manufacturer/meteobridge or must I go through duch WeerHuisje.nl?
Yet again thanks wvdkuil

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
I think Wim is right, we have a HW problem here. Sorry for that!
Unless weerhuisje recommends something else please send device to
smartbedded GmbH
Querweg 35
24632 Lentföhrden
Germany
We repair and send back for free. That kind of problem is very rare but we now have two occurrences of this in short time. I would really like to check the HW to understand why the internal USB connect to the RF board drops with your device.
Any special conditions we should know? Like external antenna (which can catch static) or location outside (where temperature changes might induce condensing) or individual power supply? No worry, we will repair anyway, it just helps us to understand the reason for the fail.

Re: Choice of WeatherStation problem in MB
Inspection of the unit showed that is was an assembly problem. The connector of the RF board did miss the contacts on the base board. This can easily happen, when disassembling and then reassembling the MB PRO. I would like to rule out that we shipped it that way, as it would not have passed the function test we do. However, this is not about finding out who did what, but to give you a hint what to look out for when doing a disassembly/assembly yourself. Unit is now on its way back.
