Alix/Etch updates

Post by netsigi »

Hi,

just checked about available Updates for the System flashed some months ago. Since I had troubles with other flash-based stuff, I wonder if somebody has some experience about this..

Actual state:

Code: Select all

meteohub:~# sh check-upg.sh

Super Tip!!

Not really! after apt-get upgrade the System was unbootable.

Worse:
Reflashed with 4.5. Had seven backups of settings, latest backup7: Format error, backup6: format error.
Backup5 ok.

Next problem.
System ID has changed.. f...

I like Meteohub one way, but I hate Systems that are not consistent the other.

thttpd-2.25b is the newest version avail. If you have sources of newer versions, please let me know.

open ssl is used for computation of hashes for some weather networks and for activation code handling. Nothing you should worry too much about.

And yes, the used etch'n'half kernel is a year old.

As posted to your similar remark in another forum, Meteohub is a appliance with a very limited scope of provided services, like your PVR, NAS, MediaPlayer, WebCam, Print-Spooler and all the other devices in your LAN. You should newer place this directly into the Internet. But having that in your LAN behind a router/firewall I can hardly see a tangible security threat there.
