At what step does your system behave differently from what is explained in the manual?

Re:Problems with nslu2
Looks like USB stick not setup correctly. Please follow steps in section 1.1.3 of the manual exactly and have a look at "physical disk" notice when using DiskImage.
Re:Problems with nslu2

Re:Problems with nslu2
I have just bought the NSLU2 unit. After going over install ... formatted a brand new disk ... Acomdata HS USB 2.0 ... 180 GB ... then nothing ...
Do not see the drive on my PC ... it has just gone dead ...
Prior to installing NSLU2 , I check the new hard drive and everything was perfect ... even copied some material on it ... everything was fine ...
If anybody would have a clue ...

Re:Problems with nslu2
Installed on a 180 GB disk?? I can give you a clue, read the install manual for the NSLU. Can be found in the download section
Re:Problems with nslu2
First of all, when you have done the firmware flashing of your NSLU2 with the Meteohub firmware 2.3 and your NSLU2 doesn't start up correctly with the USB stick you prepared, then you prepared the USB stick the wrong way. Believe me, there are hundreds of NSLU2 Meteohubs out there all setup by the procedure described in the manual. It is working!
Having recognized that you did something wrong, please read instruction in section 1.1.3 IN DETAIL. Don't think you can skip things or have to format the stick with any other tool or can use any other storage media... once you have setup a working stick as explained in the manual, you are free to experiment, but you are on your own with this. ok?
95% of USB stick setup errors are caused by not correctly using diskimage. As the manual explains you have to use the "Physical disk" mode. When you scroll down the disk selction pop-down menu, you will find the disks listed as physical disks. Select your disk there.
When using "dd" you have to make sure to copy to the raw disk (ala /dev/sdx) and not to the first partition (ala /dev/sdx1) that has been created in the factory or by your windows formatting tool or whatsoever. Meteohub image is not a partition but a raw disk containing a partition table and 3 partitions. To keep all that complexity away from you the manual exactly describes how to install. When you do something slightly different, you are out of luck.
I did spend quite some time in explaining each step very detailed in the manual. Please take your time to follow these steps.
